Oxymoron time. It seems like the favorite sport of Southerners (and, apparently other Americans) is looking to go green (http://greenhome.huddler.com/forum/thread/449/oxymoron-of-the-day-green-nascar) (or at least partly so) by using, get this, kudzu (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kudzu), "The Vine That Ate the South". I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

Dunno about NASCAR even though I live in the midst of it. Kudzu I know about:twitchy: You can eat the fresh shoots, and goats love it. A couple of goats can clear an acre a year, and they do such a good job the roots don't come back.:thumb:

I guess you could say that Kudzu was the first Japanese invasion:innocent:

I'm not seeing a downside here:

1.Taking an invasive plant to make ethanol.

2. Letting corn go back to being a food crop.

3. Making mouthbreathing Nascar fans think about ecology for once in their fool lives.

I'm honestly thinking it's a win/win/win, no matter how small.

In the fall the kudzu flowers give off this scent that reminds me of kool-aid or pop tarts or some kind of fake flavor you get at the 7-Eleven. The roots have this fine starch like cornstarch or arrow root- I used to see the starch in the local natural food store. I was thinking of trying to grow it as a house plant because it might not die on me. Does it do well in a pot? I'd bring it to the office. How do you prepare the fresh shoots? Do you have to cook and rinse or in a salad? There is a lot along some of the multi-use paths, it might be worthwhile to stop and gather some shoots on my way home.

Dunno about the pot growing aspect of it...it grows wild around here. We do wash the young shoots and they can be done as a salad or cooked like greens. I prefer mine fresh in a salad. Haven't messed with the roots yet...

It appears F-1 is also helping out with a new rule change allowing regenereative braking (like with a prius)

Sounds good to me. F-1 still runs off of a gasoline that's basically the same stuff regular people use in their cars. I thought for sure they'd have switched to ethanol by now, just like Indy.

Hmm, I wonder what all the F-1 fans think of this...
