I would love some help deciding which frame to get. I'm 6'1" and ride a 59 cm frame. There are so many brands and so many years of brands. I would love a Top 10 (Brand/Year) List from people with experience. I live in San Francisco and have a heavy, clunky fixed-gear and have heard great things about Keirin frames, though haven't ridden one. They are very expensive, and I don't want to make a bad decision. My budget is $600-700 for the frame, and I don't mind an used, straight frame that rides like the wind! Also, if people think Keirin/NJS is just hype and have good recommendations, that would be great. This is my first posting and pretty much the reason why I joined. Thanks for all your help in advance!

Good luck, hipsters have pushed that frame right out of your price range.

Also, good luck finding a Keirin frame that big. In case you haven't notice the average Keirin rider is short. The bigger frames that when they do come up on say Ebay go for big money.

I will never own one for sure because they are way overpriced. You often see $700+ asking price for a frame with dents, no thanks. I have bought 4 complete track bikes for less than the price of those fancy NJS stamped frames.

It doesn't boil down to brand and year. People don't like brands, they like builders - at least, the ones who know what they're talking about. And they like - or at least appreciate - certain types of steel used, certain types of flair that handmade builders add to frames.

Those who don't know what they're talking about - and those who do, too - have drove the price of keirin frames pretty high up. You might be able to find something at that price, but not on ebay, and probably not on craigslist. Hope your word of mouth network is in good shape.

Chances are, if you buy something that a) fits and b) is in good condition (straight, no dents or rust), then you're getting a good bicycle.

If you want to learn about some respected builders, poke around on classicrendezvous.com or the rest of the internet. don't listen to hype - look for specifics.

For the record, this forum is for track cycling - as in, racing on velodromes - so, your question might be better suited for the ss/fg forum. though you probably wouldn't get any helpful responses.
