Looking for the best pair of mtb shoes

Hi I own a cyclcross bike which has shimano spd pedals so I need shoes that go with these pedals but with some exceptions

1) I need a mtb shoe that can allow me to walk whenever I get off bikes.

2) My feet are wide so I need like an E or EE.

3) This is maybe dumb but I'll just ask it anyways,: I need one that can replace certain parts of the shoes like the rubbersole. Why I"m asking this, because I want shoes that can last long and usually the bottom gets worn out quickly within a year. If there's no such thing, then it's ok.

4)Are there difference in performance on bikes between Sandals and shoes?

SIDI.... 'nuff said. these shoes will last forever, but if you are walking a lot on pavement etc. the soles could wear fast. If you go w/ the Dragon model (expensive) you can replace the tread pieces. Sidi's are avalible in wide sizes. Hope this helps.

Sidi are my personal favs as well. I've got the Dominator's and they, like every pair of Sidi's I've owned since 1989, fit like a glove. I've tried other's like DMT's and LG's but a 43 Sidi fits every time. I tried on a set of Blaze but didn't care for the heal area, the Dominator's fit just like my Ergo2 road shoes.

The internet cannot tell you the best shoes, because the best are the one's that fit. That being said, many of the Sidi models do come in a "mega" which is wider. I use them and they are pretty much the only thing I have tried with a decent sized toe box. Plus, the have toe spike holes for cross time!

But seriously, if you have wide feet, try **** on.

Thanks guys but what about the difference between cycling MTB sandals and cycling MTB shoes?

Do they in any way differ in performance while cycling?

If there's a Performance near you and you don't want to shell out for Sidis, Forte shoes tend to fit rather wide.

But seriously, you have to try them on. I use cheap, worn out Pearl Izumis for short commutes/errand running or when I'll be off the bike a lot, not on trails. For faster/longer riding and racing, I use some nicer, stiffer Shimano M160s.\

As others have said, the really nice Sidis have replaceable soles. That said, I'm as much of an environmentalist as anyone, but don't see it as a big deal to get a new set of cycling shoes every year or so. That's certainly longer than running shoes ever lasted me.

1. Any MTB shoe allows you to walk around comfortably when you get off your bike, thats the advantage to mtb shoes over road shoes. I bought the lowest end shimano mtb shoes and they do fine I wear them almost 14 hours straight as I use them to ride into work... but they don't satisfy your third requirement.

3. sounds like you are trying to justify sidis, because I don't think I have seen any other shoe with replacable soles aside from sidi and discontinued lance armstrong nike's

4.yes, the more constricted your foot / sole is the higher the power transfer. The shimanno sandals are nice as a shoe option in a sandal but as a sandal they are not very comfortable.

I have EEEE feet and these work. They work Very well. In fact, I'm wearing them right now, because I have black slacks on and they blend in :thumb:

The best part is they have a Vibram sole which:

a) isn't going to wear out as fast as your typical plastic sole (it is true, I've been through Dominator 2s, Northwaves and a host of other MTB shoes and these wear longer)

and

b) is replaceable! Just send 'em back for a resoling when they wear through...

Money.

If I convinced you to get these shoes then I am happy. I have no affilliation with Lake (unless they're offering ;)), but just love what they're doing for the ogre-footed.

Sidi wide is at least one E or two E narrower...great for the E or EE foot, but not so good for my massive EEEE.

CAlled them Lake Cycling Shoes today and said those soles are NOT replaceable/interachangeable. Unless you're talking about something else.
