I need a commuter bike to take on public transit and that has gearing that will allow me to get up some moderately steep hills. Any ideas? I was looking at a Dahon D7?!? Thanks,

If you're in San Francisco, why don't you come to the FolderFest on Saturday, July 12th.

You'll be able to see and perhaps ride a whole bunch of different folders and talk to their owners.

I would look at 16" folders for size and weight reasons.
The gearing can usually be lowered easily by a LBS, or ordered that way.

Hills are not a special concern for a folder. The gearing on the folders I've used have tended to favor the low end anyway. I haven't found anything in SF that's been a problem (except monster hills which I wouldn't do even with a "regular" bike). Ditto come on down to the folder fest!
