It's my favourite saying, that'n. "Every day that I wake up alive is a great day!" I base my approach to life on it, and it's something which has come to mind a few times lately, reading stuff posted in this section. People wondering if being older makes them happier or sadder. People wondering if riding cycles is gonna make them live to 100 rather than 80. All sorts of stuff that I generally never even bother thinking about. I just wake up in the morning and think "Bewdy! Another day!"




I'm far from unique in thinking that way, of course. Plenty of people around who are pretty much at peace with themselves and their world. And I think a combination of circumstances has left me in a position where I fall into that way of thinking a bit more easily than most. Hell. In the 'Indigenous Australian' world of Mrs. CW (which has been my world too since I was a very young man) average life expectancy is only around 50 years. That's the backdrop to my life. We've already seen off a hefty portion of our 'contemporaries'.

I wake up in the morning, and no matter what the cares, concerns and issues of the day might be they're all really just 'little things'. The 'big thing' is that I've got another day to live through and enjoy.

It's funny, I'd agree with this except for the song I wrote that said:

"Well it's a sad, sad life when the best part of each day is when you wake up one more time just to see it."

But that was about something else.

The way I feel right now- Every day I wake up is OK. So tired (Weeks holiday in 3 weeks Time) that I feel as though I could sleep for 24 hours and not notice it.

I know exactly what you mean. I get my first week off in two years coming up in two weeks. I'm counting the days.

And the fatigue thing: I've been thinking of starting a new thread for non-syndromic chronic fatigue. I'm too tired to do it right now, though.

Wouldn't be a kick in the shorts if you did wake up dead, and all you could do is watch those alive but not interact with them? I guess that's kind of the "ghost" thing. Thorton Wilder seems to have spent some time thinking about this.

An attitude like that is the most valuable thing in the world.

First thing I do in the morning is look for my name in the obits. If it's not there, I shoot for another 30 minutes of sleep.

I wake up about 4:30am and turn the coffee on. My wife and I talk for an hour or so about her day and my day. That first few steps sure hurt but I get going and have some kind of a wonderful day.
I look forward to my ride or lifting and I do enjoy both, the more weight the better and on the bike I feel like I am just floating above the road.

Arnold Schw etc on his fiftieth birthday said something like "It is a bit
sad to realize that a third of my life is over already..." George Burns
had a nice comment too. When he was 93 he was at a party. It was after
midnight, he had a whiskey in one hand and a cigar in the other. Someone
asked him "What does your doctor say about your lifestyle?" and he said
"Oh he died long time ago."

I've noticed for years that "good morning" is the nicest sounding
greeting of the day and tends to have a really obvious built in
enthusiasm, and of course any morning that you do wake up certainly is a
fabulous morning. This kind of makes a person rich because winning a
lottery would certainly be nice but it wouldn't be all that much compared
to waking up. I saw the stats for the number of people that die in their
sleep each night on earth and it was really impressive. I don't remember
the number, but it was a small city, wiped out every night.

So I started trying a new response to "good morning" with "good morning
...sort of" and people really do laugh at that. A toned down good morning
does just sound funny. And of course at my age and IQ I've had a few
mornings when toned down at least seemed more appropriate.
