Tomorrow is July 1st, so that marks the half way point for this year. I'm sure some of you may have made goals for yourself, so just wondering where you stand on those lofty goals you made?
This year, I didn't have any goals. No triple crown, no century a month goals ... just enjoying the ride. Sometimes, we lose site of that.

Way, way behind right now and my goals were modest.

Ride a mteric with my son before he goes off to college
I'm not giving up though. There are 5 months left!

My only thing left on the books is Seattle to Portland. I can't believe it's here already!!!
Personal goals remaining:
1. Do a BF Bay Area ride soon.
2. Ride to the top of Diablo for the first time EVER!
3. Get in 2,000 more non-trainer miles before the end of the year (1796 after STP ;) )
4. Keep commuting by bike (33mi r/t) at least once a week until it becomes too chilly.

Training for the Death Ride was my big goal - training has gone well, event in a couple of weeks!
As part of the training I did a few new things:
Tour of the Unknown Coast (great ride, next year I'll bring a bike that can fit 25's or 28's)
Some of the climbs from the Terrible Two double
There are a couple of rides from the 2nd half of the year I'm not going to be able to do that I wanted to (family obligations):
Shasta Summit Century
Grizzly Century
I still have 2 organized centuries that I'm going to ride:
Crater Lake
Lighthouse
A friend is starting a century a month program, so I'm going to see if I can do that with her (at least for the rest of the year).
I'm thinking of hiring a coach/nutritionist - I'm frustrated by my inability to drop another 25 pounds and by the fact that I did not pick up the speed climbing that I expected to this year (gee, think they're related?).

Pretty good, though I didn't go into the year having many goals.
I talked to a friend last summer/fall about getting back into cycling (saw his road bike in the guest room), and he mentioned the Death Ride to me. I thought it seemed like a stupid thing to do; in other words, just the thing to get me back into cycling.
Started working out on a stationary and lifting some weights about 5-6 days a week back in September. Put my name in the lottery for the DR in February. By March I had gotten into the ride and had already lost about 20lbs. Early April I bought an actual bike and started riding. Page Mill and Hamilton in my first couple of weeks, in May I got going a bit better and did my first couple of BF rides.
June started out well with Sequoia -- 144 miles and 10,500ft with the ride to and from home. Managed a bunch of rides up Hamilton and almost 55k feet on the month. Down about another 10lbs, so 30 total.
I think I'm pretty well prepared for the DR, at least as well as I'm gonna be. It's just one of those things you have to go out there and do to see if you really can, but fortunately I'm young and stupid, so I do dumb stuff and recover from it really quickly.
I don't really have any other goals on the year, but I'm already thinking triple crown next year. I've done a double century before (STP in 2003), so I know doubles are very do-able for me, especially if I'm actually in shape for it.
I'd also like to ride Crater Lake. I might do STP again next year too. Though if I'm shooting for triple crown, that'll be 4 doubles on the year!

My goals were fairly simple.
- More miles than last year. Check.
- BF Rides. Only have done one...need to work on that one.
For remaining 6 months:
- DeathRide
- Santa Cruz Mountain Challenge
- Shasta Century
- Get back on the MTB

Yeah! It does sound funny. Sounds like Burgess Meredith in Grumpy Old Men.

If you are unfamiliar (?) you can highlight somewhat inappropriate dialogue below
Grandpa Gustafson: [speaking of Ariel] Did you mount the woman?
John Gustafson: [disgusted] Oh, *Dad*!
Grandpa Gustafson: Has she got big thighs?
John Gustafson: [thinking] No.
Grandpa Gustafson: Then what's the problem?

Reid, that's incredible. Congrats. I think I've lost a total of 15 lbs max in the last 2 years, and I just can't imagine losing anymore. Perhaps I need to get back into weights after the cardio/aerobic season is over.

My goals for this year were simple.
Get back in shape and make as complete a recovery as possible from my broken leg. It's been 51 weeks.
I've dropped 20lbs since I started riding again. I'm lighter, and in better shape than I was last year before I got hurt. Most of my leg strength has returned. As of last night, I can run again (it takes a lot of leg strength to run). Next week, on the anniversary date, I'll be completing the last of my major goals relating to my leg: riding the trail on which I got hurt :)

Thanks, it feels pretty good :) I had the weight to lose though. I've got a decent-sized frame, so it's fairly easy for me to pack on a bit extra. I'm about 5'10" and was around 215, now I've seen as low as 184. My lowest in modern times was when I was on my school's crew team about 5 years ago, I saw 177 or 178. But then again, that was after a whole year of 2-a-day practices, plus a week of intense 3-a-days. I am frankly surprised I got as low as I did now. Part of it is probably that I have less muscle than I did back in those days, because god knows my workout schedule is nothing like that. But I'm probably eating marginally better (and certainly LESS) than I did back then.
I'm mostly lifting upper body. Yeah, it won't make me any faster on the bike (might slow me down, unless that muscle consumes enough fat..) but I care more about being in overall good shape than I do about being fast on the bike. I'll never be a 150-lb speed demon anyway, and I'm not a racer. We do this for fun, right? Right?? :roflmao2:

My goals for this year are way off, basically scratched. Now riding/racing for fitness this year instead of results as I'd hoped, planned & spent a lot of time getting ready for. Next year hopefully.
A few lessons learned:
-Don't get injured. Listen to your body, rest, rest, stretch, rest
-Leave enough time in the training schedule to accommodate an injury and still have peak season left for peaking
-Enjoy just being on a bike

Goals...
5000 miles (4000 at this point in time)
Diablo for first time...accomplished last Tuesday, did south (1:10) and North ascents.
Race again...top ten every race thus far yahooooooo!
Loose weight, started at 207lbs, now 177(thank God).
Get back to cat 3 status to compete in Senior (45's) National Crits in 09...this is the tough one as I am not sure I want to work THAT hard...hehe, plus I am runnin out of time.

Goals for first half of year: not much, other than deciding on goals for the rest of the year.
Goals for second half of year:
1. Doing my second full distance tri and trying not to look so bad out there;
2. Doing a half-distance tri with my buddy and thoroughly crash him as present for joining my age group;
3. Convince wife to do the Lighthouse Century.
I'm actually already looking forward to the next year. I would really like to give some serious thought to the Death Ride. It's almost like a rite of passage here at BF.

Ah man, no fixie on the Grand Tour?
My goals just involve losing weight and getting into some sort of shape other than round.
Over the last 2 1/2 months, I've dropped 20 pounds and ridden about 600 miles.

I saw as low as 2.5mph seated and 3.5mph standing.
I didn't think my computer could read as low as 2.5. Nor did I know that I was capable of maintaining balance at that speed. Hell I was popping wheelies without even trying.

I would also like to bag a couple of century rides before December 31.

My goals for the year. Pretty lofty after taking it easy for the last few years.
1) California Triple Crown [done]
2) Climb To Kaiser [DNS] :(
3) Do a Double Century on Recumbent Trike [not done]
4) Do Mount Diablo on Recumbent Trike [done]
5) Do Mount Hamilton on Recumbent Trike [not done]
6) Do a Norcal Bike Forum Ride [soon]
It seems a lot of people have Diablo and Hamilton still on their to do list. We should get some more rides organized for that. I would be up for leading a Diablo ride from Danville

Also, you used the #4 twice :)

Life has gotten in the way of most of my cycling goals for this year, but I have knocked out an important one already and am working on another important one:
-Do some interesting rides (Point Reyes, Capay Valley, BF rides done, with maybe Tahoe/Truckee in
September)
-Ride consistently. Lots of time to get this down, with the added benefit of knocking off another goal (get
in shape).

My goals for the year was really just one really big goal:
The Davis Double.
I finished with help from Coach Taxi. Alive. Sorta.
Along the way I also did the
Oregon Coast tour (done)
Giro di Peninsula (bonus surprise ride, done)
Sequoia Century (done)
Tierrabella Century (Done)
Wildflower Century (Done)
Wine Country Century (Done)
Davis Double (Done, Done, Double-done!!!!!!)
Los Vaqueros Dam Time Trial (short, but my first timed event)
Daily bike commute rain or shine with only 1 drive.
Still on the list:
STP
Waves to wine
Possible projects/rides under consideration:
Up Diablo and down the other side, then back up again and down the first side.
Something with my old Frankenbike.

Goals? We were supposed to have goals?
Mine were modest, such as they were:
1. Learn to race -- still learning
2. Race and not finish last. So far, not last. :D
3. More centuries on the tandem. Down from last year, boo.
4. Be more of a mentor on our club group rides. Early spring, yes. May & June, not so much. As of tonight, back on track.
5. Ride the tandem (or half bike) all the way to the top of Mt. D. Not yet.
6. Enjoy more smiles per mile. Yep, that's going well.
7. Meet and ride with more BFers. Yep, that's going well, too.
My focus since Dec. '07 was on racing. So far I've discovered that I'm a middle-aged woman with a mediocre racing career, but dang, am I having fun!
Man, all you people with your "goals" and "dedication"... :P
I've been just going with the flow and letting the cards fall where they may (and mixing metaphors!). Seems to be working out pretty well. I'm happy with my accomplishments so far this year.

- Get selected in the Death Ride lottery for the first time: done.
- Train for the DR: not as much as wanted but has done a double Diablo and will try a triple with weekend.
- Finish the DR: will know as the end of next week.
- Increase mileage from 2007: I already have a bit more than all of last year.
- Ride 3 centuries: Wine Country and Sequoia done, DR next week, and might add a another before year-end.

- Participate in more BF rides: done but still will try for more.

Goals: place top 3 in a race. Best so far was 6th at Ross' Epic, and 4th overall in the KOM series (http://planetultra.com/kom). But there's still a few races left in the year. I'd like to do a sub 8 hour Death Ride but I have been getting slower the last month instead of faster so I don't know if I'll be up for it. My big goal is the Everest Challenge, where I'd like to do better than last year.
I'm on track for training time and the amount of climbing I had planned (266 hours; 372000 feet) but haven't gotten in as much intensity as I should.

What Goals? My goal is just trying to get out and ride on the weekends. With the "Honey-Do" list in full swing, one weekend a month would be a blessing. Unless all of you would like to help me landscape my yard so I could get out more. :D
Goals:
Berkeley Team Time Trial (TTT): Complete and improved time by 4 minutes over last year
Canada Time Trial Series TTT and Individual Time Trial (ITT): Missed one due to weather and completed two ITTs and one TTT.
Dunlap 31K ITT: Complete, first sanctioned ITT and rode it on new Cevelo P2C
Sattley District 40K TTT Championships: 2nd Place improving time by 5 minutes over last year which included my wife racing a 20K ITT 2 hours earlier in the women's division.

Diablo Hill Climb 10K ITT: Not planned but did it anyway and it was my first ride on my new Cervelo R3 road bike.
Equipment: Got a new road bike: Cevelo R3 and a TT Bike: Cevelo P2C
Training: Hire a coach: Complete and I have not missed a prescribed training session since commencing in December 2006.
Unintended Accomplishments:
I am ranked #1 in the State and 8th in the Country by USA Cycling in TTTs but I am next to last in CA in the ITT and bottom 20% nationally - interesting statistics.

I have made some other achievments since the new year however...
-Chico Wildflower in record time (for me)
-Monticello Century (high temps)
-800 miles in the month of May
-I won my first XC race, then won the next 4 in a row.
-I won the overall points series in Sport Class (off to expert class now)
-Climbed Diablo 3 consecutive times.
-Climbed Mix Canyon Rd without stopping (43 minutes)
Future goals for the year....
-Finish the Death Ride....
-Diablo Challenge (still shooting for less than an hour)
-Get my golf handicap down to 10.... not cycling but still a goal!
Next year will be the triple crown, including the Terrible Two.

I didn't really have any on-paper goals set for this year that I took seriously.
However here are some accomplishments/etc
We (Ruth and I) wanted a tandem - We got one
We wanted to do Century rides, and lots of climbing on the tandem - Did the Giro and Sequoia, OLH, Tam, Hamilton, etc..
I wanted to do a TT - I did a couple Canada TTs in Merckx class
Basically my usual goals come to me while riding. Like... passing as many people as possible... or hammer full out until the end of a climb/ride/section... or reeling in a strong rider, etc...

How about climbing Alp d'Huez on a folding bike? That's going to be quite an accomplishment.
I'm actually looking forward to trying to climb some stuff on the Downtube. That first gear is a doozy. Assuming I can keep from wheelie-ing onto my ass, it seems like it might be a pretty good climber.
