Road Cycling - Trek alpha 1200 info wanted...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
My LBS has a frame/fork which is 2001 Trek Alpha aluminum 1200...what was this frame set? Is it decent?
Where in the line did this frame fall?
Thanks as always.

It is one of the lower end frames. It is not a handmade built in the USA frames. But it is still a good frame.
That's what I figured, although I wasn't sure about model designations a few years ago. Ten years ago, or whatever, the 1200 frames were the bomb...my have times changed.
Thanks,

I think the Alpha SL frames are all built in the US. Just their Alpha frames (Trek 1000) are built overseas. You can see the little american flag on the chainstay in some of the pictures. But yeah, it's not one of their top frames, but also not their worst. Up until this year, I think Trek was using the Alpha SL on the frames up to the 2300 and then switched to the ZR alloy at 2300.

They are assembled in America but not "Made in America". The frame is shipped in from Taiwan and the components are added in the USA. This is what the dealer told me when I was looking for a new road bike. Actually the new ZR alloy starts at the 2100.

My bike(frame) is Taiwanese and I like it. They are as advanced as any USA union worker.

Just checked their site and it seems to support the idea that the frames above plain alpha aluminum are built in the US.

Although I'm sure it doesn't really matter where the frame is made so long as the quality is still there.
Yeah, I know about the ZR alloy being used in the 2300, 2200, and 2100 this year, I was just adding a remark about how until this current year (2004) the frameset found on the 1200 went all the way up to their middle-upper class bikes.
