Hi,
you need to build a base. The first month should be just casual cycling. Ride as much as you like, but take it easy. After that, you can start base training.
Building a fitness base means a lot of hours at a medium pace, mostly 50-60%
of max HR. In plain english, as much brisk riding as you can get time for.You should carefully avoid riding hard. This you should do for a couple months. After that 3 months you can start in on a real training program. Search thorugh the old posts at this site for training tips. I like the Heart Rate Monitor Book for Infoor and Outdoor Cyclists, and it's logbook, by Edwards and Reed.
