because of the other thread regarding owning one folder, what would you put in your stable if all you could have was three folding bikes.
I will start with a Bike Friday, Downtube Mini and a Dahon Boardwalk.

I would have to keep my Phillips 20 with it's drop bars and fixed gear conversion.

After that...something that was airworthy (thinking about a Brompton) would be essential and a full size folder would be most desireable.

Birdy Anthracite Rohloff... just because I'll never have that kind of money
Brompton or Dahon Curl... for smallest possible fold
Velotech Grasshopper... who wouldn't want a folding recumbent?

That one (I like to think my PRP is such a bike, but my legs only humiliate so many roadies)
Tikit
Maybe a Strida for the extra-funny looks I'd get.

If I could only have 3:

1. A Brompton for day-to-day stuff
2. A Bike Friday NWT for travelling
3. Some kind of folding mountain bike

......3 is not enough

However if we're talking folding bikes:

1: Bike Friday PRP with full Durace groupset, for manic bunch rides.

2: BF NWT with Rohloff and Schlumpff for touring.

3: The most expensive Moulton imagineable, just to sit and drool at.

I will start with a Bike Friday, Downtube Mini and a Dahon Boardwalk.

The exact same ones I have right now:
Dahon Modified to 3 speed Boardwalk S1
Dahon Piccolo
Brompton No Frills C type

Well, I already have two of those three (a Bike Friday NWT and a Boardwalk S1).

My 3rd folder would likely be a tikit - a large sized tikit - since a Mini or a Curve would present size and structural issues for someone like myself who is 6'3" with long arms and legs.

Been there, done that. Sears tote cycle would be my pick for #4. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2273/2630772847_5d30fee35e_o.jpg

My three folders would have to satisfy my needs of getting on the bus, weekend club rides and a shopper bike that I can leave locked outside with a kryptonite chain.

1. CarryMe --- Best bike for boarding bus or crowded train. No bag needed and you can actually sit down with the bike between your legs without offending anyone.

2. Dahon Boardwalk 3 Speed ---- Cheap inexpensive utility bike that you won't be too afraid leaving locked outside a shopping mall or supermarket. Alright, so it has to be hidden.

3. Bike Friday New World Tourist --- With a dual drive, this would be my weekend/travel bike.

My 3 choices would be:

Dream: Raleigh 20 Retro Rod, with 7 or 8 speed internal gear hub
Have: Tank Micro 16 (someday) converted to 3 speed
Have: Sears Tote Cycle (presently a SA 3 speed with coaster brake, want to upgrade to SA 7 speed internal hub with drum brake and front dynamo hub with drum brake.)

Or you can just get one - the cadenza 8 or matrix....

Oh man, if I could figure out the answer to this question then I wouldn't need to come here anymore, but here's my best stab:
1. Carryme- everything a folding bike should be
2. IF Mode- everything a city bike should be
3. Brekki (Brompton Recumbent Conversion)- souped up with extra gears for long excursions into the great unknown

Surely the bike below must make you drool Snafu? (Maybe in psychadelic orange perhaps?) :Dhttp://farm4.static.flickr.com/3202/2657457879_0444666e12_o.jpg

2. Strida5 (for multimode commute, low weight, rolling clean fun)
3. Dahon Cadenza or Pacific IF-Cross (whichever takes 700c's - fast, full sized, MM capable).

Wow, looking at the current exchange rate you can get one for less than a top of the line titanium Brompton if you buy it here in the US: 3,000 USD/1,500 GBP (http://brandscycle.com/itemdetails.cfm?sort=pricedesc&id=10595).

If I were interested in riding to nowhere with the roadies then I'd be all over it. Such a great bike (the SL that is, I can only imagine how much better the XXV is).

Hmmmmmmmm ...

(1) A modified Brompton with a high end 8/9 speed hub, the right handlebar height/reach, and that can fit ERTO 355 wheels with fenders. I'll supply the Brompton front bag!

(2) NWT with Campy shifters (Jtek shiftmate) and ... lots of specific componentry ... for most rides.

(3) A seperable Moulton with the ERTO 406 wheels. If Bike Friday comes through with their new high-end road bike then I would consider that as well.
