I went for my three hour training ride this morning on a 1 F degree temp., ok so what!...no problem, like the Norwegians say: "It's not the bad weather but the wrong clothing", so I dress accordingly w/o going overboard:

Feet: Poly socks, VB socks and a GoreTex sock over them, bike shoes (no booties)
Bottoms: padded underwear, thermal and a my spandex OR.
Top: thermal turtleneck, light fleece and a windbreaker jacket.
Hands: poly gloves, bike gloves (short fingers type) and a wind stopper fleeceglove over all that.
Head: poly balaclava, helmet with a liner over it and glasses.

My problem was the damn GLASSES, I suffered the whole darn way trying to UNFOG the glasses w/o exposing skin, fiddle here, fiddle there, adjusting the damn balaclava, etc. not to talk feeling unsafe by not being able to see clearly at times, damn!

Question: is there any solution to this problem? Is there such a thing as
FOG PROOF GOGLES/GLASSES?

Help please!

Ski Goggles will work. (I've used them here in Minnesota in past winters).

Couldn't resist this old thread:

Yup, I used my ski goggles today (thanX to the thread above!) with the temps in the single digits. I didn't have one fogging issue. Make sure you get ski goggles with 2 lenses - that's the trick. :)

I tried soon after: ski face mask, worked!
no fogging, because it has the holes where you can breath out (thru your mouth)....I'll try it tomorrow during a real ride.

Had a helluva ride today, but there is good news.
Ski goggles do work, and mine didn't fog up.

I'll back up a bit...I purchased a Seirus (balaclava),not the one with the hood--The one with the velcro strap that protects nose, mouth and neck.
I used my hood on my biking jersey and wrapped the bac around that..put on my old ski goggles with the basic foam insulation..windbreaker hood, then helmet.

20 miles in 23 degree Chicago weather and not one bit of condensation--maybe i was just lucky this time...I'll try it again and see if i come up with the same result...The heat that was blowing back went up into the bac's nose covering--that was nice.

My ride was complicated by cramps in my left calf, a sticking rear break cable that caused a pad to rub my tire THE ENTIRE RIDE,and toe warmers that got too hot.
It was tough but i finished it!!.

Is this the one you got:

Seirus Face Mask (http://www.snowshack.com/seirus-fleece-scarf.html)

If so (or if not, please let me know what you have), how do you like it so far? I'm looking for a little more nose-protection on the really cold days.

ThanX Landrover!

Hey bac,

That's it.

I like it..i had the traditional hooded balaclava but it didn't fit as snug as this one.

Corsaire, check out Smith Turbo Cam ski goggles. They sport a micromotor plus fan that reportedly reduces fogging. I use them with rose lenses (recommended) for biking to work, but have not tested how well they clear fogging. Plan to do this when doing telemark skiing in Ascutney VT next month.
