Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Read in velo news that Campy is adding an 11th gear to Record and Chrous in the 2009 line up, imagine - more cogs in the back than I had combinations on my first road bike back in the early 70s.
I was considering a new group for the Simoncini but now I think I'll wait since this '09 group is supposed to be the same price as the old group. Another side effect might be some great sales on '08 10 cog drive trains. I guess Shimano will follow along with SRAM.
I use to think that 10 speeds was a joke but a few year back when I dialed in cadence training I really appreciated the tight steps - now that I am dialing in heart rate training on top of it, it just makes total sense.

For me...9 speed is still cutting edge technology.:50:
I can get the range and the ratiometric progression I need with a 2x8 setup, but I suppose if I wanted some really tall gears, I mght be able to justify 2x10 or 3x9. I think the motivation for 11 cogs is to beat Shimano and to provide a true corncob jump-free 11-21 cogset for the Tour de France.

I'm holding out for a drive train with 16 cogs, and a chain that is so thin and light-weight that you need a magnifying glass to see it. This will also be great since cassette and chain will probably need to be changed every 300-500 miles, so you don't need to worry about cleaning the drive train on your bike - by the time it gets dirty, it will be time to replace. I can barely contain my excitement at the money that I will be saving in rags and cleaning solutions...
