Here's something you don't see too often. These came in the other day:

You mean like these? There is a shot of them laced to Mavic open pros with Panaracer Pasela tourguard tires. I love the look. Where did you get yours?http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb150/stringbreaker53/100_1281.jpg http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb150/stringbreaker53/100_1356.jpg

Probably the same place anyone else has, Cafe De Velo. I had been admiring those for a while, then I finally got my Fuji Gran Tourer, which has a number of Vx group components on it, so I bought them. Talked to the owner for a while, he said he got a batch of about 30 of them, when I bought mine, he was down to last one or two sets. Weren't cheap at 120 bux a set, but for new in the box high flanges of decent quality, not to bad. For my bike, the Fuji Gran Tourer, they are absolutely the thing to put on it, match the period, all the other Suntour stuff on it, the position of the bike in the hierarchy, etc.

Anyhow, they are quite nice. Interestingly, they have 8 cutouts, unlike Campy and all its clones which have 6 cutouts, so they get a point for originality there.

Very pretty! Those flanges look familiar to me... are they made by Sanshin/Sunshine? They sure look nice.

Well, the QR's have sanshin on them, so I'd say yes.

My 1971 Nishiki came with Sunshine high-flange hubs, Sugino Mighty Compe cranks, DiaCompe centerpull brakes, and wraparound seatstays, for a thorough faux-Euro look.

They look exactly like the Sunshine hubs that were stock on my 1975 Fuji Finest.

I have a set still in the box. The quick releases say Sunshine.

I'm with you on that, I have a stock 72 Fuji Finest awaiting some project in my closet. But I think that the coolest, in terms of usable, faux-european Japanese bikes are from about 1979-1982. Before that period, they tended towards hi tensile steel frames and other questionable quality issues (by modern standards). After that, they adopted the Miami Vice styling of the 80's. But for a brief shining moment, in the last gasp of traditional euro influence in the Japanese bike industry, they made butted cromoly frames, forged dropouts, chromed forks/stays, quality euro-like components, beautiful lugwork, and so forth. IMHO, I think that Fuji really nailed this, like my minty 1980 Fuji America, which is why I've been becoming a UJB collector and have liquidated all my Campy stuff to the next highest bidder.

Got some of these on what I think might be super champion rims, seems like they might be worth a service. they've got some corrosion on them, kind of dull....

Sunshine made really nice stuff. And very nice looking. Were all SunTour hubs made by Sunshine/Sanshin?

Both should polish up to a mirror shine. Super Champions really gleam if you polish them.

All of the Suntour hubs I have seen up-close (Sprint, X-1, Cyclone, Superbe) look to be have been made by Sunshine/Sanshin.
