I have an 08' Specialized Sirrus Sport that I've been riding for a couple months now. I find as I ride longer I find myself wishing I had some different hand positions. Anyone recommend some decent bar ends?

Just go with trekking bars. Do a search, there is a thread on them every couple of weeks. Nashbar had a sale on theirs for $14, don't know if it is still going, but they sell them cheap regardless.

Just don't make the same mistake I made putting them on: You don't need to take your grips off before installing them. Just take a box cutter / razor blade and cut then end off the grip using the inside of your handlebar end as a guide. Just run the blade inside the bar and you can cut the end out of the grip very easily. MUCH easier than trying to muscle the grip off and then back on. But, as a side benefit, I now have forearms like Popeye!
Luckily I figured this little trick out before I put a set on my wife's 7.3!

DTSCDS: If you get a little shot of WD-40 under them with the straw, hey will slide off easy enough. Shoot a bit under both ends, spin them and slide. Alcohol works too I am told.

Trekking bars are great, but I also enjoyed my Ritchey WCS bar ends (they are angled at about 45 degrees in, felt very natural).

Yeah, they work really well when I bomb down hills.

So I went out to the LBS today and checked some bar ends out. ended up getting the specialized overendz. Put about 30 miles in today and they really helped out a lot. nice to have some other hand positions now

eventually i'll get a road bike...i think. right now my hyrbid is comfortable though which makes me want to ride, which means i'll lose weight. I just didn't feel as comfortable when i tried out road bikes. once i have less of a gut that could def change though

I see, just that so many underestimate the comfort of a roadie. Ever try something with a tall headtube (more upright position) like a Lemond. Trek Pilot or a Specialized Roubaix? I know several riders that have gone from race styles to the more upright and love it.

My wife like her Bianchi roadie. She thought it was wonderful. Then road her Pilot and feels a big difference I the position. Believe me, we started on hybrids too.

BTW, to actually 'try a roadie' is doing atleast a 40 mile ride. Much different than an 'around the block' or 'parking lot' test ride.:D

i def hear ya, i just bought my bike a few months ago and it was a big debate in my head. Right now this feels right for me, and i'm sure once i get road bike i will say why didn't i do this sooner. at the same time, i'm riding a lot with my bike now and that's really what it's all about. I'd love to say next year i'll have lost some weight and feel like i'm ready to move on. we'll see!

Yup. as long as you're having fun! My wife still has a Specialize Crossroads that she won't give up eventhough she's put about 50 miles on it in the last 10 years.:D Specialized bikes are good stuff!:thumb:

When I talked to one LBS they were pushing a hybrid, even though I wanted an entry level road bike. I finally gave up on the TREK stores and talked to someone else that actually listened to what "I" wanted. Now I have my road bike, and I can do some decent rides on it. I also bought a comfort bike for my wife as that is what she wanted, so I had to buy a slow comfort bike for me also, when I really should have just bought a entry level mountain bike.

Keep having fun and you will keep riding.
