Cyclocross - Bontrager Race wheelset in 'cross?

You guys think these would be sturdy enough to run in 'cross? I guess I am unsure about the paired-spoke setup. Yeah, they'd be decent road wheelset but I'm looking for wheels that can handle the beating I'm liable to give them (not intentionally, it just sort of happens).

I run Race X Lites and they've stood up thus far. I haven't had any problems other than a spoke loosening up (which didn't result in the wheel coming untrue...)

Race Lites are spec'd standard on the Trek XO-1.

So, yeah, they'll be able to handle any abuse you can dish out.

BTW - I didn't see an accurate listing as to what's different from the Race to Race Light to the Race XLight, etc. I know up on the top end the nipples are located at the hub and it's a carbon rim, right? Just would be nice to know what advantage you gain at each step.

You don't get a carbon rim until the Race XXX-lite.

The main differences between race, race lite, and race x-lite lie in the hub, the weight of the wheel, and the stiffness of the wheel.

I consider myself a heavier rider and would feel more comfortable racing on RaceLites vs Race X-lites.

That being said, I race on 50mm Carbon tubies. :)

You should be fine on the Race ones- long term I might upgrade, but they won't explode or anything.
