Question about Sierra Rd.

Does anyone have any stats on Sierra road in Milpitas/ San Jose? Did that climb last week and it kicked my ass. Wondering what the elevation gain and distance is from bottom to the peak? How is it in comparison to the climb up Calaveras? Seems like similar elevation gain; over different distances though. Thanks in advance.

Sierra Road always seems much harder to me - Calaveras (climbing up from Milpitas) has a few steep sections, but Sierra Road is relentless (note - I've never climbed Felter Road after Calaveras - that might change my opinion!:))

What a fitting topic -- I climbed Felter to Sierra today! I didn't pay attention to the altimeter for the climb, but it was a tough one, coming at 80 miles in my ride, but that area is in my mind the most beutiful spot for riding in the Bay Area. My ride today came to a total of 7,100' over 99 miles. I started in North Berkeley, headed up over the hill and did the bears, then Alhambra, etc., to Danville, out to Sunol, over Sierra, and then ending at the Fremont BART. I'm a little tired tonight...

Ugh, I rode DOWN Sierra once and that was bad enough. I had ridden Palomares, then came up Calaveras from Sunol, dropped down the wall, climbed UP the wall, came back down, then climbed the remainder of Felter to Sierra. Jeeeeeez Felter just seemed like it went forever after the looooong gentle climb up Calaveras from the north and then a bonus wall climb!

I compare everything to Diablo. This chart only shows Summit Road (above the Junction), and Sierra from the west.

Were those the 2 hardest climbs? They were both on the same day of the race.

Yup. Trinity Grade they pegged as a Cat 2, everything else was Cat 3 or 4.
