Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. I have a 2003 specialized enduro that I just bought a Marzocchi Z1 FR SL for. When I removed the old fork I see that it has a race for the headset. Can I remove it to put it on the new fork or do I need to get a new one? It doesn't appear to be removeable.

It is removeable. If you are unsure how to take it off, take it to the store but a way you can do it, is to use a mallet and a screwdrive and tap it out slowly. Might take a while but eventually it'll come out.

I've found that a chisel gets in there a little easier then a screw driver. Work your way slowly around the race with a slight twisting motion.
By the way, I love the Z1 on my Enduro.

Removing it is the easy part......pressing it onto your new fork is a bit more involved...

Thanks for the info. The chisel worked great. To press the race onto the new fork I put it on my vice opened just wider than the race and used a deadblow hammer. It worked great.
dpdsurf, what rear spring are you running? What other upgrades have you done? The 8" rotors look sweet.

It's a Fox Vanilla RL w/ a 750lb spring.
Upgrades:
-8" rotors
-Mavic D-3.1/EX823 Tubeless rims w/ MICHELIN UST DH COMP TIRES (2.5 front, 2.2 rear
-Truvative Stylo Team Cranks (seam to be holding up fine, I was debating Holzfellers)
-Thomson seat post
-WTB saddle
-Race Face Diabolus Stem
-2" riser bar (I have some 2.5" on the way)
-Weyless mag platform pedals
-Heim 3 guide (haven't lost the chain yet since added!)
-and of course the suspension
Basically I've changed everything but the derailers, brake levers and calipers. The stock rims were destroyed rather quickly. If you do any kind of jumping I recommend changing those before you hurt yourself like I did :D
