Hey, I'm sure I have an embarrassment of choices, but what would people recommend for fireworks watching tomorrow? I'm in upper manhattan so I thought of going over to new jersey in the hopes of avoiding crowds to some extent. I probably don't want to go further than 25 miles. Anything I should look out for or avoid? Thanks!

We used to live in Tappan, NY. We would go down to Piermont and watch the fireworks from the various river towns from Flywheel Park. No where near as spectacular as the Macy's display on the East River, but none of the crowds and traffic either. The view from the Piermont pier might be just as good. You might need to check on schedules for the local river town fireworks displays.

Here's the fireworks map:

Good luck getting a spot on the Brooklyn Bridge. :P
Also, Grand Army Plaza in Brooklyn has its own fireworks. They're not as huge as the East River ones, but they're an alternative. The crowd is not awful at all.

Nothing beats fireworks in the mall in DC. The best I've ever seen.
There's a brand new park, south of the ConEd plant, around 9th Street on the East Side Bike Path. Since it just opened this year it might not be too crowded and, looking at the map, it should be a prime location.

i noticed that new park, it's very cute and has some nice benches, etc. but when oh when are they going to re-pave the path that goes past it? it's a nice ride but the path is so f'd up, it's not much fun on a single-speed. :(

Thanks for all the suggestions! I ended up going to see the southern manhattan ones from nj but given the rain I don't think crowds would have been a problem either way.
