Who is doing the Marin Century (http://www.marincyclists.com/Default.aspx?pageId=143302) this year? Which route are you doing?

I'm thinking about the Mt. Tam Century.....

I signed up for the Mt. Tam Double, but am behind on my training, so I am likely to opt for the century.

I'm in...Will do the Classic Double Metric course, which is the standard century plus Coleman Valley Rd.

How's the support on this ride? I'm coming up from the peninsula as I rarely get a chance to ride in Marin and plan on doing the 100 miler. Looks like a great route, but I haven't found any comments on support.

I haven't done this, but past reviews say this is what of the best supported rides ever. But I'd say it would be hard to be the support on Davis Double.

We're in! I'm looking forward to completing this ride differently than last year: 1.) I won't be hungover at the start :o, and 2.) We won't fall on the descend on Lucas Valley Rd., heading toward the finish.

We're signed up for the Century, not the Mt. Tam Painfest. Any other tandems?

Support is terrific, and food is amazing! Fresh figs, strawberries, brie cheese, artisan bread at the Petaluma stop. Can it get much better?

We crashed descending Lucas Valley Rd. on the way home. The first SAG vehicle to pass by stopped and poured drinking water on my wounds. They weren't able to transport us, but could get another vehicle soon. Cgallagh opted to ride to the finish (his words, more or less, were "...you can wait here and bleed, or we can ride to the end and you can get medical attention." Guess what I did, heh, heh). By the time I got out of the medical tent they were out of ice cream.

So I want a do-over! With the bike upright for the entire ride.

Wait, we were talking about food and support...it's awesome!

It's on the day before the SF Marathon. Next year I'm not signing up for any more marathons. It takes too much time away from cycling.

Why are most going for the 100 miler and not the 200k/mi?

This looks like a great ride AND I have in-laws in petaluma so there might be a place to stay. HMM.

The $85 is for the double century. On the double route, there are eight rest stops; on the century routes, there are only four. The double rest stops are also stocked with Hammer Gel, Sustained Energy, and sandwiches at the lunch stop -- none of which are available to the century riders. Thus the higher fee. But if you think of it as two centuries, it's actually cheaper...

Whats the pavement like on the Mount Tam century ? I am considering doing this one as I have never ridden mount TAM and I also need to do a hilly century in August.

Hey Rum, I would say the pavement is pretty good on this route. Mt. Tam is a beautiful, long climb: the ocean views are spectacular and the descent is a blast. Hope to see you out there.

I've done Marin before (a few years back) but I actually prefer the Shasta Summit Century held the day after (Aug 3 this year). The roads are smooth, the climbing is real (10,500ft for the 100, 16,500ft for the 135) and the downhills are beyond reason. Riding down Mt. Shasta is one of the most exhilarating experiences you can have on a bike. I'll be in Shasta this year again.

I'm out. I have a tri in Sonoma that same day. Next year, for sure: the commercials they run during the TdF on Versus are looking pretty cool.

i'm in for the 100 classic. Bringing the bike friday pocket rocket. Time to see if it's century worthy.

OK, I'm going back and forth from attempting the double, as I planned, or switching to the Tam century. I wish there was an official in between option. I think I'm going to go for the double with the realism that I'll lop off the final ~20 mile loop.

After completing the DR - I have signed up for the Mt Tam Century. This is a good one. Alpine Dam, BoFax ridge and Seven Sisters is my training ride.

I have to say that the first 70 miles of the the Mount Tam Century kicked my bottom on the recumbent trike. Mount Tam was particularily challenging as it seemed like you were climbing forever before you even got there. The views were absolutely stunning but it is annoying how it keeps going up and down. Highway 1 really dragged for me and I just couldnt seem to get going on it. The last 25 miles with a tail wind were fun and I finally seemed to get into the trike groove and wind it up to warp factor 9. That is the hardest ride I have ever done on the trike and I doubt I would ever try it again.
I saw a few familiar faces at the end but no-one I recognised on the ride :)
I dont suppose anyone has the Garmin altitude readout for the Mount Tam Century as I forgot mine. It felt like a lot of climbing to me.
