i used to not be able to ride more than 20 miles without having the usual issues (numb hands, groin, so on), but after years of tinkering with a bike set up, i finally hit one that works for me:

its a complete surly lht with nitto albatross bars, pasela tg 32s, and a brooks b17 for comfort. I rode it in the houston ms150 (http://enthoosed.com/bicycling/trip/profile.v?id=25149), and had no pain other than the good kind.

i think the handlebars were probably the biggest factor to improve comfort. not so much pressure on my hands, and less pressure on my belly too. i'm about 5'11, 210 lbs. Hoping to get below 200 by end of summer, so i can promptly gain it back during the holidays.

Dude! That is sweet lookin'.

A couple questions:
- Are those Velo Orange fluted fenders?
- Have you considered matching Brooks leather bar tape and mudflap, just for super-excess awesomeness?

I hope you never let that out of your sight...

thanks for all the compliments!

yes, they are velo-orange 49mm fluted fenders. best deal on metal fenders i've found.

i thought about the leather handlebar wrap but i'm not sure how good leathers gonna hold up under houston weather and my sweaty hands. I had an amber shellacked cloth-wrap on another bike that actually worked pretty well, but no one seems to sell orange cloth wrap anymore. yellow is too light. for now, black cork tape will have to do.

the leather mud flap will definitely go on as soon as i put in another velo-orange order. that store is dangerous.

I love those handlebars. I have a problem with my belly getting in the way so I actually have a BMX bar on one of my bikes.
Very nice bike.

Beautiful set up, I had the same problem and came up with almost the identical set up, I finally found a set up that works and I am in the process of setting up my other bike just like it. Just ordered a Brooks Flyer for it.

Nice bike! I sure wouldn't mind having a rig like that. But I am surprised that you'd have so much discomfort at 210. Heck, I feel like a feather on the bike at 220!:D
