Western Canada - Ride Banff to Jasper or Jasper to Banff?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. My sister and I are planning to ride Banff to Jasper or the other way around this September.

Just wondering how many people have done this ride in the past?

Do you have any suggestions on which direction to take?

Any suggestions on what we should plan for?

She rides a Specialized Road Bike and I have a Specialized Sirrus, so just the slick tires - is the highway fairly clear or should we look at getting different tires?

Is it realistic to think we could do it in 3 days (both of us have done the MS Rona Bike tours comfortably in the past both in Red Deer and Leduc to Camrose)?

Really any info or recommendations would be great! :)

Thanks,

DJ

Seems to me that the highways are pretty smooth, at least the Jasper parkway (or whatever it`s called...the toll highway.)

Isn`t it almost all climbing from Banff to Jasper? (someone correct me if I`m way off here) It depends what kind of riding you`re into. If you like climbing then leave from Banff, otherwise go the other way around (Jasper to Banff)

Jasper is 1062 metres above sea level, Banff is sitting at 1463 metres.

You will be climbing no matter which direction you travel as you have a couple of high points to get over. I would go in the direction that gives the best logistics, which for me would be the shortest drive home.:thumb:
