well this explains why it was such an easy switch from being a musician to being a commuting cyclist! :D

This explains why I get the shakes when I've been off my bike for a few days. I gotta get my fix!

So THAT'S why I get the munchies after riding for a while...

Ditto.

I wonder if anyone in Nimbin has seen this report.

Fascinating...

I have just learned that "cannabinoids" have close cousins, naturally produced in the human body. Not strange, since opiates are received by neurotransmitters in the brain that were meant to bind to endorphins.

Caffeine is found in how many different plants? Coffee beans, cola nuts, tea, Yerba Mate, Guarana...

I begin to think there is a great deal of repetition in nature. Still yet, perhaps the human body has the perfect chemistry.

(I admit I drink coffee a bit, though. :p )

More on the addiction theme. Does anyone else notice here that the more they ride, the more they want to ride? I've just come back from a tour of Tasmania, but I just keep wanting to get back on the bike and ride more km. Anyone else notice this?

Exactly. I started commuting to work every day this last year. Now, I fantasize about a trek across the U.S. . . or perhaps weekend jaunts to the coast (coast is 90 miles away). I never want to drive anywhere, just ride, ride, ride.

When I rode with the Randonuers, everyone had this (problem?) No ride was long enough.

I've yet to read, but have read a review of, Gina Kolata's book, Ultimate Finess: The Quest for Truth about Exercise and Health.

If I remember right, it's about why people, even fit people get out to exercise and in it she quotes a swimmer and psychopharmacologist who says, the real value of exercise is it feels good when you do it and when it is over. The truth lies in pleasure.

Maybe these chemical reactions are why it feels so good.

Hey Chez, what's Portland like? I hear good things, I'm looking for new surroundings (always)... what's the weather like? You guys get any thunderstorms?
