I just drove from Donner Pass to Mammoth, taking me around the North Eastern part of the lake and although beautiful, I'm not sure I would like to ride my bike there. There is a definite tendency to be distracted by the beauty when driving and run some poor biker into the asphalt...YMMV

Go clockwise. There are some short, steep climbs near Emerald Bay, but overall not a tough climbing ride. Lots of traffic in Incline Village. Be careful on the East shore section, this is where you ride with the fast traffic, then near the Casinos it slows, but again there is a lot of activity.
