I've been lurking for awhile now and wanted to drop in and introduce myself. I'm a 36 yr old Clyde from CT...........always been a big guy, currently I'm close to 300 @ 5'9". My goal is to get to just under 200.

For the past few weeks, I've been riding my old Trek 830 fitted with street tires. I bought the bike new in, I believe 94 or so, and it's my plan to ride the hell out of it for the rest of this year, and get a road bike in the spring. I'm currently riding on a bike trail (paved) in my area and am up to about 10 miles a ride. I know I'm not ready for the streets yet, as even the slightest, tiniest incline or hill kicks my ass!

Oh, now to the freebie.... I read "Heft on Wheels" by Mike Magnussun last month. Since then it's been sitting on my kitchen table collecting dust. Since I try to occasionally "pay it forward", I'm willing to drop the book in an envelope and mail it (for free) to the first person to shoot me a pm with their mailing info. Hopefully the book can be enjoyed by someone else instead of just sitting around!

Welcome. I'm 5'11", 39 and about 315 lbs down from 400. I started riding late last year at about 360. I ride rail trails in my area. They are crushed limestone. I've been riding a mountain bike. I bought a cyclocross bike about a month ago. I figured I could still use it for the trails but start to get out on the roads.

I live in SW PA which is all hills. I'm doing 16 miles on the rail trails (5 days a week), but doing 6 miles on the road nearly kills me. Once a week now I go out and do a road ride and then take the next day off because my legs are rubber. I guess it will come. Good luck!

5'10", 278, 31yr. Back injury in the service made me have to recoup for 6 months before discharging, and then figure out what I could do again. Since 2002 Ive been gradually putting the lbs back on, but its time to do something about it. Welcome to the forum!
