Story time: Wisconsin state championship road race some time in the last century, going up this stupid steep climb near Paoli, WI our team manager would walk along side us and swap cold bottles for the empties on our bikes as we raced up this hill. Honest. I got 14th (102 miles - last finisher) and actually fell asleep in my pizza at Pizza Hut that evening. My friends will never let me forget that one.
Sweet story. :)

So....Hip....I take it you will be participating in Superweek now that you're a racer?

A) I already WAS a racer...two years and running that I've been in racing events. This latest humiliation is only proof that you can't teach an old dog new tricks.
B) correct

Hmmm.....Wisports(?)....yeah....
Hip - my license says "Member since 1993" on it, but that doesn't make me a racer. ;)

Hey! I don't see anyone pedaling there either. Of course, I've never seen anybody pedal in a still photograph! :roflmao2:
Nice pics John!
My friends will never let me forget that one.
Nor should they . . . that's what friends are for! What a great story!

This actually makes me somewhat excited to do more road races. Now, if only I can get out to Colorado or Texas...or something.
We need more RR in our area.

There was Baraboo, Denzer, Whitewater, and WI State RR. Although Menomonee Falls, Sheboygan (Evergreen), and Whitnall (Superweek), are in parks, they are essentially road races, and then there's Superweek's Holy Hill. So that's eight ... that's not too bad. So which one has the toughest course?? Hmmmm ....

Denzer was the hardest of the ones I've done. The hill was steeper and longer than Baraboo.

Now if I can just get one like that of Hip ... I'd frame it myself and hand deliver it to the radio station while he was 'On Air'. http://emoticons4u.com/happy/1219.gif

Ugh. That was me riding the course beforehand. The locked arms. The tense shoulders. Yikes.

Yes. Let the loathing flow through you. You are becoming powerful.

I guess you (and Hip) will just have to race again since I don't do 'fashion cycling' shoots:
" Okay - relax you shoulders, flatten your back ... Ooooo yeah, work with the music baby, okay now give me a little sneer .... YEAH! THAT'S IT! *Snap* *Snap* Okay, now zip up the jersey, give me a victory salute ... Oh yeah ... bigger smile! YEAH!! *Snap* *Snap*"
Hmmmm ... then again, maybe I'm on to something ....

Really? I thought Denzer was pretty easy...then again, I won it.
I guess I was spoiled with doing a road race every weekend for collegiate season and going to north carolina to train in the mountains during spring break. The hill seemed like a North Carolina climb that was 7 miles shorter...
Baraboo, Denzer, WI RR champs, and Holy hill are the only real road races as far as I'm concerned. Anyone miss Alpine Valley now that it's gone?

Denzer was hard for me because I can't climb. I can fake it over the short run, but I can't sustain the steady w/kg for 5 minutes to really be competitive on that scale.
So for me, yeah. Denzer was easily the hardest of the season. I was probably the worst climber in the cat3 field.
