Southern California - SHARROWS in LA Wed , July 9th @ 2 PM

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

NOW IS THE TIME TO TAKE ACTION.

On Wednesday, July 9th @2pm The City Council Transportation Committee will be discussing two very important issues that have been long-time priorities for LACBC: Sharrows and the proposed closure of the Purdue gate on the Ballona Creek trail.

It is very important that you come to this meeting to voice your support of Sharrows in Los Angeles and your opposition of the motion to close the gate on the Ballona Trail.
If you cannot make the meeting, we urge you to call and/or write letters and emails to the commitee members.
see below for more info and details

THANK YOU!
SUPPORT SHARROWS IN LA!

LACBC recently proposed Sharrows (shared use lane markings) to Eric Garcetti and now he's taken the idea to LA City Council!

We now need you to help support Sharrows by calling, sending an e-mail, or attending the LA City Council Transportation Committee meeting on July 9 at 2 pm in order to voice support for the "Sharrows" proposed for Fountain Ave. and Vermont Ave. (see below for contact info)

These two proposed streets are just the beginning of what we hope will be a network of Sharrows throughout Los Angeles to encourage cycling as a viable mode of transportation.

Support for cycling has never been more needed than now!
With the increase in gas prices, growing concerns about climate change and high levels of pollution more people are turning to bicycles for transportation.
Many people have expressed some fears of riding in our city. Tell LA City Council Transportation Committee that Sharrows are one tool to help alleviate that fear and encourage more people to ride a bike. Voice support for Sharrows on Fountain and Vermont as well as throughout our city.
When you communicate with the Transportation Committee, remember to include:

* Some of the benefits of Sharrows include: they show cyclists how to avoid the door zone, confirm cyclist's rightful place on the road, and discourage wrong-way riding.
* Cite personal experiences if you can, to show that sharrows are needed. Have you ever been doored? Have you been told to get off the road by motorists? Have you been in a collision that involved a wrong-way rider?

COME TO THE MEETING! CALL & WRITE TO THE COMMITTEE MEMBERS by July 9th.
Let's get SHARROWS in LA!
