Anyone ever change the handlebar on a 1980 Schwinn Voyageur? It just has a clamp (is it 26mm?) that doesn't seem like it would open very wide at all. Looks like I'll need to "slide" the handlebar out. I'm wondering/worried about what will happen when I get to the drops. It just doesn't look like it will be easy to "slide" the drops through. Any thoughts?

Handle bar is 25.4 mm or 1 inch. That is the only size that will fit the stock stem. If you fiddle with the stem and the bars it will come off easily. Roger
It is sorta like the bead on a wire toys, that you see for the kids, at waiting rooms. It takes a little bit to figure out but you are moving the bead=stem around the curves. The stem with the bolt loose or removed becomes sorta oval. Use the wider part by to manipulate the stem off the bar. BTW don't forget you can remove the stem from the bike so you don't have to worry about the bike tubing being in the way. I still end up with the stem on the wrong side once in a while. When you change them out be carefull not to scuff the new bars, check for burs when taking the old ones off. File any casting burs off before installing the new ones.
