This was my bike when I was like 12. I did freestyle for awhile, then started skateboarding and never looked back. Bike has been sitting in parent's basement ever since. I pulled it out today, and am going to make it a summer project to get it back to "like new" condition. I've never restored a bike before, so am prolly going t need some feedback from ya'll as the project moves along.

it actually looks really good.

for starters, you could sand down the frame and fork and repain them. that would be a pretty good starting place.

if your going to keep it you may as well powdercoat it. as for restoration tips , check out www.bmxmuseum.com (http://www.bmxmuseum.com) look in the restoration stickys.you will find out how to clean the mags and all.

that's a sweet survivor. is it all original except the back tyre? +1 to checking out bmxmuseum -- what they don't know about restoring an old friend isn't worth knowing. don't forget to post before and after pics in the museum when you're done!

If I remember corectlly, I changed seat post, seat, stem, and grips. Went through a few tires when I rode it. Rest is stock.

I'd just ride it like it is... as long as everything dials in...

You can get a good chrome plating if you do a VERY high quality polish job on the frame. Any little blemish, even marks from sandpaper will be dramatically reflected in the chrome when you get it back. Don't put any power tools to use when polishing the frame; hand work will prevent any "digging in those hard to reach areas. Ebay always has vintage stickers so you can get it looking like it did when you got it new.
