Hey all,
I went car-free two years ago with a straight bar, front suspension, aluminum frame Scott hybrid. It was great for urban curbhopping, but left a lot to be desired on the open road. This year I bought an '88 Fuji Touring Series V from a family friend to get a feel for the road riding style.

I live in a small town with great public transportation and don't want to store or maintain multiple bikes. I ride about 30% road, 50% curbhopping and 20% dirt road/trail.

Any recommendations on a bike built for sidewalks/curbs, trail rides, muddy dirt roads and performance on paved straights? In my head I envision a cyclocross/tricross setup but with light, tight front suspension for the unavoidable bangs of curbs, night riding and washboard gravel. Does such a thing exist as a front suspension designed not to interfere with road speed? Has anyone put one on a bike built for the kind of riding I do?

Thanks for all the help so far,
SanChoe
