I haven't had a road bike since I was in High School.

It's not quite all together yet, still needs a rear derailleur and a chain. Most of the parts were donated by a friend who couldn't stand it that I had this frame and wasn't riding it.

Of course, the LBS is closed until Monday.:notamused:

I can hardly wait!

Softride beam? How much do you weigh? I met a couple with a tandem that had a beam. I asked about it cause the lady (Athena) bounced and bounced. They said they had never had a problem with it. But that they carry an extra pin (beam support). Maybe 5 miles later, it snapped!

I didn't read the thread but I think I saw a topic of Softride going out of business or quit making bikes. Maybe look into a replacement pin before they vanish.

Wonder if you couldn't just go get a bolt from Home Depot or Lowes for about 1/4 the price.

I weigh 210 and dropping. Softride doesn't make bikes anymore, but they still have some parts in stock. The beam pin is about a 1/8" drift pin, and they still have them; I'm sure the local hardware store could fit it as well.

The frame and beam hadn't been built up before, so I'm not too worried about the pin failing for a bit yet.

Oh I would snap the beam so fast. I think I'd put rollers on the inside of my cycling shorts so when it snapped I could sit on the back wheel. :-)
