Anybody got pics to show of their tricked out e-bikes? I haven't any yet, except for my new rear-view mirror, but I'm plotting how to attach a lock box to store my tools and such. Plus various baskets and so on. I'd love to see what everyone else has added on.

Once again you've led us toward a good thing. I've never looked at 'Utility Bikes', never would have seen that neat bike. Thanks, Don

I'm gonna have to wait until this thread gets longer before I post a pic of my bike with the milk crate attached with bungee cords after Allen's wonder!

And ditto on Don's post, I love that thread! What great bunch of beaters! (not yours Allen!)

ya know I'm here. I can't do the teacher's stare over the net.

I'm disappointed with my to ability to capture a picture of a person, not a crate, not 2D/ I should have known you weren't a kid. Most young uns don't have the quiet confidence to pull off your smarmy act.

DonReal answer: I have quite a few things I want to do to the bike, so I'm waiting until I've done them for the pics. One of which is the lock box I think I mentioned earlier. And I need to adapt the milk crate a bit, right now it's too close to the seat and pushing on my, well, my crate. :roflmao2:

And why hasn't someone invented a hat helmet? Helmet on the inside, sun hat on the outside. Why?

The pith helmet, also known as the sun helmet.Yes, I do know those. I was thinking more of a hat that you can't really tell that there is a helmet inside. Do you think a pith helmet gives much protection ala a bike helmet? There are also horse riding helmets that have a brim. I'm just trying to get maximum sun protection w/helmet.

Have you looked at http://www.otivia.com/cargocache.html for your lock box? It's not real pretty as issued but looks functional. You could fix the pretty part. Don

I like it better in every way.Hey Don, thanks for the links. The one you got looks great, but too pricey for me right now. I'm going to have to do my usual silk-from-a-sows-ear routine for now.

Sorry about your chargers. Yes, Los Angeles. I'm surprised I still have the milk crate! The helmet mirror is a good idea, I'll see how long my handlebar version lasts.

Lynn Thanks for the sympathy on the chargers. I guess it was just a case of no fool like an... They weren't in sight and I thought we all still had the small town thing goin'. Oh well, luckily my wife's rich. When she hears me say that she says "yea between the toes". Where do people get these crazy sayings?
Anyway, I meant to say the Cargo cache is not a shoe in. The rack is big enough but if the cache were bolted down as they describe you wouldn't be able to remove the batteries. I'm think'n like a lazy susan at its front and a lock at the back. The other one, which is cheaper, would require that you buy a front rack $50 or so, or for me shed one of the big grocerey bag panniers I like and depend on.

Now everything gets locked.

As to the lock box, I'm thinking of rigging something up for the front handlebars, because of that battery removal problem. The bungee-corded milk crate works well on the back rack, easily removed.

My brother used to live on one of the islands off of Seattle, on "Toe Jam Hill Road". Maybe your wife has relatives there.

Lynn Good rejoiner. I don't think we ever heard a report on the first post surgery ride.

lynnala
07-07-08, 02:21 AM
Ah yes, the post surgery ride. The first was fine, today though, the motor chain started slipping, so I need to adjust the motor slightly, pull it back some to tighten the chain. And I think the brake pads are dragging a bit, I just read your post on the walmart ebike thread about how to adjust them, thanks! I've never worked on a bike at all before, this is great fun as I love to tinker. As well as totter.
BTW, there's an "e" at the end.

Lynne I'm glad to hear that you and your beast are on the go.
Good news at this end too. It looks like my homeowners insurance is going to pay for the replacement chargers. So I'm just out time, trouble and my faith in neighbors.
I guess its a good reminder that, for bike stuff, like other stuff, it's worthwhile to take pictures and save receipts.
Now, I've been wondering if there is a significance to ala.

+1 on the helmet  Gotta have one if I can make it look manly.
BTW, anyone ever get hit by a "pith""Try it with a cheapo cowboy style straw hat. I just cut the crown area off, and then unraveled the straw until it fit around the helmet, no sweat! If I had another helmet, I'd try a cowboy version too, just to see.

Or, on a more "pithy" note, you could try an army or camouflage canvas brim, that would be cool.

and from the dictionary:
pith:
–noun
1. Botany. the soft, spongy central cylinder of parenchymatous tissue in the stems of dicotyledonous plants.
2. Zoology. the soft inner part of a feather, a hair, etc.
3. the important or essential part; essence; core; heart: the pith of the matter.
4. significant weight; substance; solidity: an argument without pith.
5. Archaic. spinal cord or bone marrow.
6. Archaic. strength, force, or vigor; mettle: men of pith.
–verb (used with object)
7. to remove the pith from (plants).
8. to destroy the spinal cord or brain of.
9. to slaughter, as cattle, by severing the spinal cord.

Here's a couple of my velomobile last Memorial Day Weekend at Portland International Raceway. The second photo show a Go-One who also has electric assist. He's using a Bionix setup at 36v I think. The Go-One had no chance keeping up with me. His assist would stop working at 20mph and he would only have his pedaling to go faster which he did. I was doing 35mph on the straightaways. We were in separate divisions so I was racing against him. Still I enjoyed lapping him five times and waiting ten minutes for him to finish. Had we been racing say 50 miles or so he would no doubt have won as he is a much better athlete than I am. I was using a Crystalyte 406 at 48v 18Ah AGM My stats were 24miles in 45min10sec with an average speed of 31mph using 14Wh mile. The fastest e-assist bike there was a Tour Easy GRR with a fairing and full body sock. He was 20sec per lap faster than I was. Five assist bikes showed up for the inaugural race. As it turned out all five were in separate divisions so we all got first place. I'm sure it wont be like that next Memorial Day 2009 More photos can be seen on my http://www.flickr.com/wmbates/sets

Thanks. The e-Power Challenge was a great success. We had 2-3 weeks notice of the race after obtaining insurance for the event. In that short time line messages were posted, sponsors stepped forward, racers signed up and I did a complete rebuild of my whole drive line including both electric and pedal. I was running a 60t chain ring and an 11-34 seven speed freewheel. With those cog combination's I could provide pedal input to over 40mph. The fastest I drove was 40.4mph running at 60v on an open track test Saturday. I had thought that the track was a nice oval track and was rudely awaken on the first turn. It was the turns that kept my speed down running at 60v. The velomobile along with my skill couldn't go much faster around the turns. However my skills did improve every time I was on the track. I had four open track test prior to the race and each time my average speed increased as I learned what line to drive.

Here a link to my postings of the event on another forum:
e-Power Challenge Memorial Day 2008 (http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=4426&st=0&sk=t&sd=a)

And as I said there are more photos at my flickr site and two short videos:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/wmbates/sets/72157605279784351/

There was a typo in my first post say that the Go-One and I were in separate division but I was racing him. I meant to type that we weren't racing each other even though we raced together, only the clock.

Wow, my post fits in with yours just fine. Velomobiles are fantastic vehicles. I had wanted one for over ten years. My sugestion is not to wait for "one of these days" but start ASAP. I'd like to have a streamliner (two wheels w/body) next year. Then I could take the corners faster.

For the full back story (well mostly full) go to the E-S link I listed above and you can read my posting of the event as it unfolded and post event wrap up.
