General Cycling Discussion - "Bike" magazine

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Did anyone have any experience with it? I just ended my subscription with "bicycling", what a POS it was. Today in the mail got the offer from "bike" for only 15$. Just wanted to know your opinion on the content of this publication. Thanks.

I've had a sub with them for about 3 years now. Content is a bit weak, but they're known more for the pictures. They do an Annual Photo Issue which makes me drool.
Their reviews are so-so, usually short and very to the point. The editors try to cover all aspects of mtn biking, but it's hard to make everyone happy.
To sum up: I'll resubscribe when it's time!

Two words Dirt Rag (http://www.dirtragmag.com/home.php)
Wow, thanks for the fast replies. I already forgot how many good members this site still has!

I'll take that as a compliment! Thanks.
BTW, my favorite magazine is Dirt Rag. By far the best content of any other cycling specific magazine out there.
It is however a bit "Liberal" on political issues for my Conservative Republican self, but I dismiss this and enjoy it for what it is!

IMHO, this is how I rate the mags in terms of quality:
1. Dirt Rag (great content, good pics)
2. Singletrack (great content, good pics)
3. Bicycling (good content)
4. Bike (poor content, great pics)
5. Mountain Bike Action
(content? try advertisement for FSR)
5. Mountain Bike (tie for last)
Also check out mtbr's magazine review (http://www.mtbr.com/reviews/magazine/) for more reviews. I'm not sure who took the time to review magazines for god sakes, but I guess they're helpful reviews.

Don't get Singletrack. Obviously pretty good. I did get one copy of "FLOW". What a great mag. Large format, big pics, actual race coverage, good interview..etc. I heard they are no longer.
I was told there is another Large Format mag out there called "24" but have yet to see a copy.
Personally I don't like Bicycling. I'm too much of a mountain biker to be concerned with the roadie point of view!

Singletrack (http://www.singletrackworld.co.uk/index.php?menu=1) is a UK mag, but I've seen it in local bookstores. I've heard about FLOW, but never have read it. I agree that Bicycling is more of a roadie mag, so buyers beware :D

Decline is the NEW mag that matches flow content. 24 is a strictly XC mag.
I am surprised by dirtrags following. I am one person who recommends against them. Their content is strong but usually has nothing to do with anything I enjoy about biking. In order for me
1 - Decline / Flow (for the hardcore / new school / dhiller in you ;))
2 - MBUK
3 - Bike (pics)
There is nothing else worth spending money on. If you are a content freak and love the retro grouch feel of old school ss guys then dirtrag kicks ass too, but like I said their content doesn't appy to me in any way.

If u want pics get velonews mag.
I got Bike, and their pics rocked. That said, I didn't re-up because of the content. I'm still looking for a solid mtb mag, myself.

Yeah, if you follow professional cycling that's one to get. Great tech articles, good (though sparse) reviews and of course a pretty thorough coverage of pro racing.
The internet is better than any magazine.Way better.
thanks, i'll probably give "bike" a try. See what it's about, it's only $15 for a year......
