Training & Nutrition - Life after knee replacement?

I have been experiencing knee pain for some time. Based upon my readings in this forum I decided to have my knee checked out. Well, the doctor told by my knee is shot. I may have to have a knee replacement in the future. In the meantime I purchased a knee brace. Is there anyone out there that can tell me what to expect?:(

Been there done that, in fact I took up cycling to stave off surgery.

In a nut shell, the procedure is worth it, but expect it to be a year before the knee is better than it was before surgery.

12 years into a replacement.

I am in a similar situation in that I have had both knees scoped for meniscus damage and now have constant discomfort in both. I will be going to the doctor in two weeks and am going, in part, to ask for a referral to an orthopedic specialist.

Not to disagree with 'Turtle Jack', but there are some alternative treatments that claim to offer help. I am not recommending these folks but I am going to try to hang onto my own knees as long as I can. Once you have parts replaced there is no going back, and if knee replacements are like hip replacements, they may have to be re-done in about 15 years.

Since your doctor didn't mention anything like this to you alternative treatments may not be an option.......or the doctor may not be be aware of other treatments.

For anything short of replacement I will be looking for a doctor that works on the knees of the local football team, but I don't know who I will turn to if I need total knee replacements.

Good luck and don't hesitate to ask over in the 50+ forum, since we are all wearing out over there.

Wife had one knee replaced in late June, and was out walking a mile
within 5 weeks and 10 weeks later went on a trip to England with extensive
walking (more than her traveling companion found comfortable) without
any difficulty at all. Motivation and attitude have a lot to do with results.
