Hi everyone,

I've had my Dahon for about a year now and it's my first folder. I've changed various components to get the weight down, i.e. pedals, saddle and removal of the biologic seat post pump and the bike is a lot easier to carry when necessary. However it could still do with being lighter and I find I tend to ride it in one gear most of the time (I only do a few miles hear & there). At this stage I realise I would probably be better off with a 16" folder, but the Curve D3 is about the same weight as my Vitesse. So I'm wondering whether I'd be better of changing rear hub either on this bike or a future Curve and opting for single speed, and if so, what rear hubs would be compatible in size and significantly lighter than the internal gear hub? Also, where would I get. . . I don't know the correct term for a cassette with a single ring, you know what I mean?

The sturmey archer hub I've got apparently weighs around 1200g which is fairly hefty. I'd imagine a shimano hub plus cassette/thing could weigh as little as 500g, and I'd lose the shifter and cable. Makes sense to me. I don't know if the hub on a Curve is much lighter than the sturmey archer that I have.
