I see "they" closed GMR to vehicular traffic between 7/3 and 7/7.

Anyone know whether that includes bicycles? With $4.60 gas, that would be a very expensive and frustrating "hope for the best" trip for me.

I've heard people that ride it anyway, but I also heard of one unfavorable encounter with a cop (not sure of the details), but even if the responses are unfavorable, you could ride up Mt. Baldy instead or drive another 10 min to Angeles Crest if GMR should become unavailable.

It's always closed 4th of July weekend. I've ridden it a few times on July 4th and our club just did their annual 4th of July ride to Baldy yesterday. No problems. UK is right there is always the risk of getting the disgruntled ranger. The last time it was closed for an extended period of time because of the roadwork and fires I know people who simply got turned around and others who got tickets. Depends on who you see up there and what kind of mood they're in that day.

From the forest service website: "With the exception of Littlerock, most forest roads that are closed to vehicle traffic are open to hiking, mountain biking, and equestrian use, but the users must be aware of possible administrative traffic."

My wife and I drove over to GMR yesterday and enjoyed a great quiet ride up the mountain. We had only before been just beyond the GRR cut-off, so this time we followed GRR to Mt. Baldy Village. Would have tried the climb up from there but it was getting hot, and it sounded like the last bit of road would be better suited to a group of competitive friends rather than a gentle husband and wife Saturday ride. I'll come back another time and check out the last bit.

I've only recently had the pleasure of riding this route at all, and would ONLY do it in the absence of cars. It's too narrow to share. I did kind of feel bad for the handful of sportbikes that I heard approaching before having to turn away a the gate while we got ready, one of which said he'd ridden about 40 min. on the freeway (worst kind of riding on a sportbike) to get there only to have his hopes dashed. I'll be watching the road closures online to see when they shut it back down again.

Hope some others were able to get out there this weekend also.

I road up it yesterday. It was so nice without cars and motorcycles. I left from Corona at 6:00am, to Chino Hills, to Diamond Bar, to Mt. SAC, to Covina, to Glendora, started the ascent on GMR at around 8:00am went all the way to the village, descent down Baldy, and was back home by 12:15pm.

Rode from Encanto Park, East Fork, GRR to Baldy both Friday and Sunday. With no cars or m.cycles, both days were amazing!

felt1 that is quite the ride. On Friday I met 2 guys who rode from Seal Beach to the village (and of course back to Seal Beach).

Yes it's a nice ride if you get a early start. But where I start is not really Corona but the Eastvale area by the Preserve there in Chino. My address says Corona but I'm not really in Corona. This Saturday we are starting from Grand Ave./GoldenSprings(Diamond Bar) riding to Encanto,East Fork,GRR and Village. On the way back we will just descend GMR. If anyone wants to join they are more than welcome.
Seal Beach, now that's a ride. Like one of those sea to summit things.
