General Cycling Discussion - The final answer to ALL your bike-security needs - if only we can buy them!!

So my last thread was about bike security and someone pointed me in the direction of PitLocks, which I am totally enamored of and will ultimately order.

But, while pitlocks will prevent theft of the fork, seatpost, wheels, and brakes, there are still billions of nice little allen wrench-head screws as well as a handful of phillips- and slot- headed screws that can be removed in order to make off with handlebars, derailleurs, and other (not-cheap) little bits of your beloved bike. So I was wondering if there were any similar products made just for screws. Lo and behold, Bryce Fastener Corp:

The only problem is that they appear to only sell these things in boxes of 250 or more. I've already emailed them to see if there are any retail outlets which sell these lovely devices. In the meantime, does anyone know of anything similar which IS available retail? Two Kryponite NYC u-locks, PitLocks where I can put them, and everything else replaced with these would allow me the peace of mind to actually lock my $2200 baby up outside in NYC...

Thoughts? Ideas?

hahaha dammit I dont just use it to bike around though - in the summer I like to bike everywhere. With my old crappy bike this worked great because I didnt have to worry about it being stolen and I hate the idea with this new bike of having being forced to bring it in with me. What if I just want to bike downtown to get lunch? Grrr...

People generally aren't going to take the time to slowly take apart every piece of your bike unless you leave it out for multiple hours. They look to easily take off parts that have quick releases, e.g. wheels, seatposts, etc. If you're leaving it out long enough for people to slowly pick it apart, they might as well bring a grinder and take out your u-lock.

You could probably use a flat blade screw driver jammed in with a visegrip for leverage to unscrew those devices. Nothing is fool proof

If they were available retail, they wouldn't be nearly as secure.

And the min order on most of them is 2500 not 250.

edit: though they do sell boxes of 100 of hex-pin and torx-like-pin, those are tough to find
