Southern California - OCTA Commuter Bikeways Strategic Plan

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hello everyone, OCTA is conducting a survey that will allow cyclist to offer their input for the OCTA Commuter Bikeways Strategic Plan. Go to http://www.altaprojects.net/octa/Survey.html and take the online survey. Give your two cents.

Done. Too bad they don't reach me, but I figured the information is representative.

Funny thing about the OC, Huntington Beach specifically - there's an initiative called "HB Goes Green" on the City's website, and not one mention of bicycles as transportation anywhere in it.

Click on the "Transportation" link at the bottom of the linked page and there's no promotion of bikes as an alternative for City employees.

I did my bit tho' I moved 8 years ago. Gave my old Zip. Pet request was that I wanted all peace officers to sign a statement that they understood and accepted that bikes(HPVs) have a right to be there. Then if they brush us off in apparent favor of a motorist we have them.

Done. I too gave them more than my 2 cents worth. :)
funny, seems that everyone has the same ideas. I also finished the survey and said that educational programs for law enforcement personnel would help bicyclists most.
Thanks for the link!

That's because "going green" is just a scam designed to suck in the gullible.

The inclusion of bikes in the initiative would somehow undermine the scam?

Not at all, but since no one seem to really want to change their lifestyle, including all the lefties, why bother doing anything more than the superficial. It's no different than wearing one of the many colored ribbons, you're making a show of caring while in reality, you're doing nothing more than wearing a ribbon. All the greens want everyone else to change, while they continue to live in huge houses, fly private jets and drive big cars, but of course they need to while no one else should have the right.
I answered the survey and may try to attend the meeting this Saturday July 12. I am a daily bike commuter in OC, and travel about 30 miles round trip every work day along the streets of our county. I have lived in many places in and outside the USA, and this is one of the best places I've been for using a bicycle as a daily transportation vehicle in a large metro area. Yeah, OC doesn't the recognition like Portland, Eugene or Davis which have a lot more vocal activists of all flavors. OCTA should get credit for including a very good map of recommended bike routes on it's web site. I've checked out many of those routes before heading into central or northern OC, and it's a great resource. I would simply hope this strategic plan doesn't put a lot of resources into off street bike paths. There several ways to allow cyclists to be safely included in the traffic flow along existing streets, and hopefully that will part of the recommendations. More bike lockers at OCTA transportation hubs and at train stations available for occasional users "a la carte" instead of just permanent bike locker tenants.
