Hello all,
My name is Tray, and I am the lead Mental Health Counselor at a non-profit residential drug and alcohol treatment facility in No. SD County. We service over 120 women (and their children) recovering from a variety of addictions and mental health issues. Many of our women are homeless and struggle to get around town to the appointments that they must keep as they begin to rebuild their lives.
As cyclists, we all know the benefits of exercise on our well-being. There also exists a large body of clinical research supporting the benefits of exercise on mental health. It is my goal as a cyclist and as a counselor to help these women explore a new, healthy lifestyle that not only will benefit their bodies, but also serve as an affordable way to get around town.
I am writing this post to ask for donations of used, serviceable bikes that our women can have available to help them in their recovery. My hope is to have at least 10 bikes donated that I can service, refurbish, and use to create a stable of bikes that the women can check out and use on an as-needed basis. These bikes would belong to the center, so they could be used to benefit more than just a single rider. Since we are a non-profit organization, your donation may also be tax-deductable. You can learn more about our program at the link below.
If you have a bike that you are willing to part with and is in reasonable shape (my mechanic skills are basic as best), then please contact me through PM or at tray.thomason@ncsh.org
Thanks very much for your consideration.
