What's saddest is that Apple is consistently one step behind the times with the iPhone. 3G? Seriously...? How about WiMax, so you can keep up with the other companies in half a year?

Problem is that nobody offers WiMax in the US other than some tests in the Bay Area. Pretty much, in the US, 3G and EV-DO are it. You arn't going any faster.

Europe, and especially Japan have phones that far surpass anything here. I've even heard of people using cards there with Linux routers to give immediate failover should their main connections to the Internet drop.

What gets me is that even though Apple gave a swift kick in the rump to the other US cellphone providers, not much has improved. Sprint still sells their has-been Mogul, T-Mobile still is selling their brain-dead TI OMAP phones with 200 mhz chips (even overclocked, they are still slow), Verizon is trying to hawk Chocolates and gewgaw phones. Ironically, the only company that has viable smartphones other than the iPhone is AT&T. The AT&T Tilt is what a smartphone should be, as you can easily use it as a router (tethering), full wi-fi support, etc.

T-Mobile's service is awesome, but if they don't get on the ball and carry something modern, I may just see about either buying an unlocked GSM phone, or perhaps going to AT&T.

AT&T service is ****. They don't keep their infrastructure up with demand. Apple just makes another piece of junk that you toss within a year or two... just like every other consumer electronics company. Their junk doesn't have soul, feel, pop, whatever. It's white, expensive, and just as ****ty as the next thing. What's sad is people define their lives and image by products. That's a pretty good litmus test for a consumer *****.

Since I always seem to end up living on the outskirts of some middle-sized city, I tend to enjoy my Verizon service which has been pretty good.

But yeah, their phones stink. I'm due for a new phone in Feb. and I don't really want anything they're offering.

I used to enjoy waiting in long lines with my gf in Westwood for a movie on a Sat night. But that was when I was in my twenties and I was confused.
