My 8-year-old daughter has been invited to play with her first traveling soccer team! We had originally believed we couldn't afford to do this, as I'm still not working due to my health issues. Then we learned about scholarships for this type of thing, and will be pursuing that with the club.
I'm ecstatic because I had felt so guilty about me being the reason she couldn't pursue this, but due to a odd karmic event we found out about the scholarship program.
When she tried out (by special invite, following a letter I sent outlining our situation), she was absolutely phenomenal. Best she's ever looked. The coach said "she definitely has soccer in her", then offered her a spot. As a soccer nut, those words mean a lot to me.
The club teaches a Brazilian individual-skills-based approach that intends to build comfort and confidence on the ball. If you have heard of Leah Fortune (a 20-ish woman on the Brazilian national team, but has dual American-Brazilian citizenship), she is a graduate of this program.
We are so excited. Plus, our 4 1/2 year old is just as amazing in her own way, with her own interests.
Sorry, just had to do it.....but kids are off the hizzle (or is that phrase no longer current?)
