It was great meeting you all today. Weather was nice and cool and the pace set by the tandems was fantastic. I felt a bit guilty wheelsucking all day so I tried to do some pacing on the way back but made a complete pigs ear of it. Its really hard to do anything other than draft a tandem. Special mention must go to the "uspspro" tandem team who set a blistering pace on the way out down highway 1. I touched 48MPH trying to catch them up on one of the downhills.
Great bunch of people and a fun ride.

Thanks for the great ride guys! I need to spend more time riding in groups; as much as I like to go at my own pace, being pushed really helps with the training. I averaged about 17.9mph and my avg HR was 162, which is probably my highest avg. Seemed like I spent the whole time over 170, with some 180+ work!
60 miles, not a bad ride for only three and a half hours' worth of work!
It was great riding with some of you. Wheelsucking was really fun and I don't feel bad about doing it at all.
Sorry about checking up without warning at San Gregorio. That's a lesson for me.
Pete, sorry about getting your vest all sweaty. It was pretty warm on the Haskins climb.
Thanks for posting the pictures! Looks like ya'll had a great time.
Great ride everyone. Thanks especially to the tandems for letting us wheelsuckers do what we do best:). Cheers to Alan for hosting the after party. Every ride should end with good tunes and Coronas!
Also, thanks to Cathy for the great food!

We are so sorry we missed this ride. We will try to put something together up here or if you guys do it again we are in (unless something dire comes up). On a plus note our crit went off well and our good friend Gio won the 35+ 4-5 race.

That was a great ride/party.
Ruth and I don't feel spent at all really. However, we just couldn't get the power down on the longer hills. Maybe it's these damn antibiotics and stuff (I just had a root canal a couple days ago). I don't know haw to describe it, like my dial was stuck at 6 or 7 and couldn't dial it up.... hmmm.
The party was great: the food, the music, and the folder antics at the end... classic stuff, haha.
The other tandems were blazing fast! I think we are going to try OOP (Out of Phase, for you half-bikers).
We'll try it when we get back from our trip at the end of the month.
Thanks again guys, for a great time. Special thanks to Cathy and Alan.

Great pics. Thanks for posting it for those that couldn't make it (myself included). I'm sorry I couldn't make it, but work related scheduling made it a bit of a challenge.
It was a pleasure meeting everyone. What a great hammerfest although Haskins Hill was more of a death march. Here are our pics.

I'm jealous you all got such a nice ride. Wish I coulda been there.
Here are some of our pictures..
This was a great ride, and a super great turnout!! I was really bummed to miss the afterparty, I wanted the chilli, especially towards the end. However, our schedule was so tight, we had debated our ability to even make the ride at all. But I didn't want to miss this ride.
It was great to see all of you, and meet some new faces. We are very fortunate to have such a great group of people here in the norcal section. Can't wait for the next one. I need practice with my camera :( I was clicking almost all day, and I only got a handful of useable pictures (operator error almost the entire time)

What a great day! Thanks to everyone for coming out! We had over 40 people!
The Mild ride was wonderful. It was nice to be able to chat and ride for a change. We ended up with 36 miles, but lots more climbing than originally advertised - probably close to 3000 ft.
Paula and I had great fun on the hybrid tandem. I was captain on the way out, but on the way back from Pescadero, we switched places. It was cool, except that she couldn't see over my head when I sat in front of her :D. Oh well, watching where you're going is over-rated anyway. We had a blast on the bike. Thanks Paula, for being my stoker :thumb:.
The after ride party was everything I hoped it would be. We had such a good time. Cathy's meal was the best :thumb:! The tres-leche cake had to be the highlight of my week! Wow!!! There was lots of laughter, music and just a great ambiance. It was wonderful to actually have sustained conversation with the BF crowd. What a great group!
See you all at the next ride....

Well…Now that was different! It’s 4:50 am and I’m just drinking my first cup of the day and putting down
my thoughts from yesterday’s social conflagration. I think the ride took somewhat of a backseat to the rest
of the activities yesterday.
I had earlier rented a car and I had been fortunately upgraded to a bigger Jeep wagon. We had brought a
lot of food and my bike. We had plenty of room and it was a nice smooth ride down to Alan’s. Alan’s
crib was quite the treat. I’m hoping Alan may at sometime adopt Cathy and I. I could be very happy in
that environment. ( I promise to not act up it you adopt me Alan)! Alan’s dog Liezal…
( I know the spelling is wrong), fell immediately in love with Cathy! Cathy’s a real DoggieMommie…Why just look at me : )
Paula arrived right after us and we rushed to get it together and get moving. Alan and Paula adjusted
and quickly began rolling on the Cyclo-Erotica Transportation unit.
(Sorry when I see that thing, that’s right where my mind goes).
We met up with the cast of thousands that had arrived and we’re waiting to go.
Right at the start I was overwhelmed to meet so many I hadn’t seen in awhile or
some I’d only met online. Tandem Twosomes O’ Plenty had arrived!
Rich & Mary Ellen, Marco Ruth and Smooth & Sassy were doing the
longer route, so I’d be able to ride that wave.
At the start I noticed a very striking woman with a gorgeous face and pretty blue eyes.
I couldn’t help feel that I knew her from somewhere…
We we’re off! Of course Ruth had made the mistake of feeding Marco Raw meat for
breakfast and the M&R team were off! I grabbed the fast moving tsunami, but being
the long ride leader I popped out and rolled back to make sure that everyone who fell
off the back wouldn’t get lost in the mix.
I got to meet JackTripper, so we talked for awhile…nice guy, welcome Jack.
I rolled with Gary (SteelBlue) and we caught up with some chat. I
got back to Tricia and I hadn’t realized that Curtis had blown by me.
I hung with Trish for awhile and we had some conversation.
I think she’s going to help me with my book. So it turned into a pleasant
business meeting. I was not enjoying the weather and my seat wasn’t very
comfy. It was bothering my bad hip. Curtis held up and waited for us so we rode together.
As usual Curtis always gets my brain furnace fired
up with his thought provoking banter.
We made the turn at Gazo’s and I found the group waiting up.
I heard that a couple of Tandems and solo’s had missed that turn and
were probably moving down the Baha at this moment. We decided to press on and the
front group got away from us.
In Pescadero we met up with the short group.
A rush rush snack and we were out of there. I started to have fun.
My aspirin kicked in and I hopped on the back of Rich/Mary Ellen’s tandem and we were hauling butt!
Or should I say they were hauling my butt J
I split off at the climb and Ramon kicked my butt up the first big climb.
At the bottom we regrouped and just flew out to San Gregorio.
That was the most exciting part of the ride. Rich & Mary Ellen showed their race
experience by chipping away at the the group in front that had a 100 yard lead.
It’s fun to just be a spectator inside of the strategic game play of seasoned athletes.
I enjoyed it very much. Gary got dropped off the back. I felt bad.
Soloing in that headwind was going to be a spot of bother for him.
All along I kept running into the mysterious woman with the blue eyes.
I spoke some Spainglish to her and she answered in French… ah!
That rang a bell my first clue…I’m getting closer!
We decided to skip the Tunitas loop and get back for food.
We made insane time back. Rich and Mary Ellen skipped out on the chili.
They had to get back home. It was a lot of fun and a big party was under way at Alan’s.
I have to say one thing though. We all missed Ron!
We had some great food. Everyone introduced themselves.
Kids we’re running around and dogs…Ahh…I love my new family : ) . I felt like Uncle Pete.
We played and sang. Paula played some beautiful music for everyone and Curtis sang and played
for us, in an around the campfire style.
Alan brought out his fold-ups and we all took turns clowning around and racing each other up and down the street.
What a great time we had. Cheers to all. I can’t wait to do it again. Looks like we have a couple of
slow weekends coming up. I’m taking a couple of days off the bike to heal. Thanks Alan for putting this on.
You’re the perfect host…and I think I left my notebook with all the names I wrote down.
Oh the mystery woman…It finally hit me where I had met her! The climb up Hamilton.
I had stopped to talk to her and took some picts. Problem solved but now I’m such a
dummy I cannot remember her name. Oh and Ron we all missed you man. It’s not the
same without you.

Great ride, guys. There were so many memorable moments...or maybe I just need to get out more! Thanks for everyone for the great ride, and thanks to Alan for organizing and hosting, and to Pete for leading the long ride.
My favorite parts of the day were finally getting to meet people and place their faces with their names/handles, and getting into the pace line on 84. Unabashedly, I was riding behind the Marco/Ruth train on 84 and did not even dare to wander off to the side. Diane (the mystery woman in Pete's report) Ramon and I also had a team-work moment right before the Pescadero store stop. It was so fun and it really begged the question: Why can't there be pace lines readily available at all times??!! Sigh...
Unfortunately, I couldn't hang out at Alan's afterwards and missed the chili and cake, which really was what kept me pedaling (or something remotely similar to that) on the final stretch on hwy 1, all alone, battling wind, and missing the train. It was great meeting all of you, really. I got to admire some bikes, listened and traded stories, and just generally enjoyed a group of fine folks. See you out there next time!

I posted my pictures but didn't get to post my thank yous!
Huge thanks to Alan for organizing and hosting, and for letting me ride his cool tandem with him. That was very fun, and definitely a different experience. And I discovered that riding captain is even more challenging when you can't see over the stoker's helmet! :p Angel, that video was hilarious to see, thanks. :D
Another huge thanks to Cathy for the amazing food and hospitality, glad she finally got a chance to sit down and rest at the end. I think she worked far harder than any of the riders.
Thanks to my fellow musicians Curtis and Pete, and thanks everyone for the great company. It was wonderful to see everyone again and meet some new faces (especially overthere). :)

Yep, Hermes and I on the tandem and Henry on his single blindly zipped right by the turn off at Gazo's Creek Road. (That after we prematurely turned left off Hwy 1 to Pesky.) Hermes was down in the aerobars and I was tucked in behind him. Three and half miles later we realized something was amiss - so we got a bonus 7 miles in. We rejoined the group at the rest stop in Pescadero.
Sorry we had to bail out on the post-ride get together.

Just wanted to pop in and add my voice to the chorus thanking Alan for organizing the ride and for offering the hospitality of his home, and thanking Cathy for the stellar food service (and doggie daycare!)
We had a wonderful time, even though we were relegated to the back of the pack pretty quickly. :) Good weather, great riding, excellent food, fantastic companionship, a wonderful apres-ride gathering - a great day all around.
I was pretty busy keeping the little one on track (she wasn't expecting the 3,000' of climbing), and helping the wife forget about the remnants of her cold - so I didn't shoot too many pics. But, here's what I do have:

Wow, great pics and great report. The report and the pics makes me even more bummed that I couldn't join you guys. Looks like it was a great time to be had by all. Thanks for the sentiment Pete ... I guess my clownish antics were missed that much, eh?
I did get one call early in the morning, but got that all taken care of by 8 am. I didn't get any other calls the rest of the day. I probably could have ridden, but with the requirement of being within 20 minutes of a VPN'd PC, that made the logistics that much more difficult. I was able to get in a 25 mile ride in after 6 pm at least. Just wasn't the same without my BF friends.
Catch you next time.

I want to thank Alan and Paula for hosting a wonderful ride and gathering!! I finally got to meet all the people on this forum that I mostly get to read about. :D Special thanks to Kathy for feeding us fabulous, truly home-cooked goodies, and to Bigbossman, the Real Boss, and the Real-real Boss (who is pretty amazing to me to ride the 'mild' (HA!) ride yesterday!) who gave us a ride the rest of the way to Half Moon Bay and back from their place.
It's such a wonderful group of people and riders, I'm so glad I came! Some of you (Pete!) are quite a legend here in the NorCal forum, and it's fun to meet everyone in person.
I'm sorry we left before the music and foldy races, but it was a 12 hour day already, by the time we got back to Davis. I don't know if I'll ever graduate to the 'drope the hammer' group, but if there's another 'mild' ride in the offering waaaay overthere (bada-boom), I'll try and make it!

Stop the press's!! This just in... News Flash Pretty Blue Eyes = Carolyn
From Mt. Hamilton Ride!
Ummmm...... Pete, her name is Dianne :).
She's a friend of mine whom I invited to join us. She had a great time with the group (even though some weirdo kept calling her Carolyn). I hope to get her out with us more often. She's a strong rider.

She wasn't even gone a day, and already you were throwing wild parties and taking another girl on your tandem. You will have quite the reputation! :p

Hey all --
Thanks for a great ride yesterday. It was our first BF ride - we look forward to many more. If people are interested, we can host a ride in the Oakland hills sometime. We're in Rockridge, near the start of Tunnel Road.
Best,
Brett and Lisa Young.

Dianne! I told Cathy that and she said no it's Carolyn!... Double DOH!!
Here are the Wild Ride stats from Velodiva's Garmin corrected by Ascent software.
66.5 miles, 17.9 average mph (the timer was running at one regroup such that average speed is understated) and climbing 4336 feet. I believe Smooooth had 18.3 mph.

You will note we overshot the turnoff on Highway 1. We did not quite make it to Baja.:D
