Last weeks group ride, a cyclist from an adjacent club crashed. He twisted his handlebars. His cell phone was in a holding bag tucked under his handlebars. The cell phone survived the crash. / Most often when I take my digital camera, I put it in a trunk rack within a plastic tupperware container. I hope that would protect my camera. / I have seen some club members keep their electronics in their jersey pockets even. Seems pretty risky. What do you do to protect your expensive electronics .

if i must carry anything, phone and pda go into front pockets, as they seem safer to prevent things from sliding out. camera... i'll ride with my Nikon dSLR slung over my shoulder or in a backpack... if i'm doing distance or wearing pants that will not accomadate electronics securely, i'll put them in the under-seat bag, but my camera does not fit in there.

Seat bag road riding or camelbak mountain biking.

I bought a cheap camera for taking pics on my rides. That's sort of my "protection" strategy: I only carry cheap and replaceable things so I don't have to take the loss of a good camera on top of road rash.

+1. This is also the biggest reason I don't ride a $5000 wonderbike.

I don't expect to crash everyday, so eh, in my Jersey's back pockets just fine. Of course I wouldn't do that to a brand new iPhone 3G, but when it gets old, ask me again.

I had my iPod and cell phone in separate back pockets when I had a crash three weeks ago. Both survived fine (better than I did) and showed up very clearly on my hip x-ray.

I keep my phone in the very small pocket of my Camelbak, my MP3 player in my pocket [I wear baggy basketball shorts when riding, so the pockets are very deep, meaning it doesnt fall out] and when I start taking my camera on rides, the case will be on the sternum strap of my camelbak.

Depends. If the Ortlieb handlebar bag is attached the camera almost always goes int here, otherwise my jersey pocket. It's only a $100 camera so if I crash it will be the least of my worries.

Cell phone almost always goes in the jersey pocket.

GPS on the handlebar. No real other practical place for it.

That pretty much sums up my way of doing it.

I carry a small digital camera on a neck strap. The camera slips in my pocket, ready for the quick shot. Cellphone if I carry one is in a slip case on my hip...it is probably the cheapest one they make.

If I need to carry anything that doesn't fit in jersey pockets my range of crumpler bags are perfect.

The 3rd leg is brilliant as it stops the bag swaying around, more comfortable and just as if not more secure to the body than a backpack

Cell phone in my back shirt pocket. Not to valueable as they can be replaced easily. My 5000 dollar insulin pump is cliped to my shorts on my back. This is made pretty tough so I take my chances. My blood glucose meter in my back shirt pocket. Easily replaced if broken, I have about 5 of them anyway. If I worried about crashing and breaking this stuff I might as well park my bike.

Anytime I've crashed (nothing major) the stuff in my jersey pockets got trashed. That's why I don't keep my phone there - so it will work to call for help if I need it.
