I finally got a job!!

After 9-1/2 months of being unemployed, discriminated against because I'm 59 (no proof though), and having lots of free time to ride (I'm really going to miss that  ) I now have to join the rest of you doing the 8am-5pm grind.
Actually I don't think it will be that unpleasant ;) .

There have been a number of BF members who have given me hope and encouragement during these past months and I'd like to thank them for their kind words and support.

For those of you who are familiar with Atlanta, I'll be working at Scottish Rite Children's Medical Center (http://www.choa.org). You can read my profile to see what I'll be doing.

The hospital is about 11+ miles (18 km) from home so I'm hoping I can find a good commute route. And Pete, the Medical Center Marta station is less than two blocks away, so I can include public transportation at times.

And after the paychecks start coming in, I'll be checking out new bikes - maybe a new commuter (not sure) and maybe another bike to keep my Litespeed company. :)
I'll keep you posted and ask for opinions once I decide what bike(s) I'm looking at.

Congratulations, Ron! I hope you enjoy your new job (and possibly new bike).

Now you will have the opportunity to go on at least two good bike rides a day.

Congrats...I think? I won't get to bump into you at the park anymore Ron.

Of course there is an old saying, I doubt in your last moments you will regret having not had the opportunity to work more. So I hope you made the best of the time off ;)

Great news Ron.

Hope you enjoy the new challenge.

Anything with "Scottish" in the title will be A-OK

Way to go, man... glad to hear that your first thought about what to do with the paychecks is more bikes :D:D:D

I now have to join the rest of you doing the 8am-5pm grind.

<edit> My hours will be 7:00am - 3:30pm. </edit>

The hospital is about 11+ miles (18 km) from home so I'm hoping I can find a good commute route.
Working those hours will mean I'll have to get up at 5:00am and leave for work at 5:45 if I commute by bike. This will distrub my weary wife (she has a really demanding job in healthcare) who gets up at 6:00 for her job. Not sure if commuting will work. I'll just have to see how things work out. :(

Congrats, welcome back to the tax payer roles. With the budget deficit, your contribution will be greatly appreciated.

Congrats, and as a side note, don't forget to fix your claims on your W-2 (legally fix, that is), as Uncle Sam will be taking out a little more this year since there are 53 weeks this year instead of our usual 52! :( I think you have until like the second week of February to do this before it's too late...

I'm in my second week.
You know how you always seem lost for the first couple of weeks? Well everyone has been very helpful.
Working in a children's hospital is much "quieter" than a regular hospital. :)
