Can't seem to get the results this season? Feel off during every race despite excellent preparation? Well let's see if the bible can help. Proverbs 13:10, "Only by pride cometh contention." Now I'm no Christian but what I think this means is that if you don't have pride you won't be in contention.

It says somewhere that "Pride goes before the fall." So you will crash or be in contention, but only if you are proud. You will not crash or be in contention if you are not proud!

I'm pretty sure it means, "Don't have a big head". It will offset your center of gravity and you may take a bad fall.

Isn't pride a sin?

Exegesis is tricky. As far as Pride coming before a fall I think, and I'm sure Erasmus would agree with me, that it means the fall will happen in the middle or back of the peloton and if you have pride you will be in contention thus avoiding the fall hence coming before those who fell. Thomas Aquinas rightly points out that pride is only a sin if you are a Fred.

The only applicable Bible quote to racing is:

And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

Jesus was a carpenter so he must have known how to drop the hammer.

I think you'd be better off going with science, which says "Road rash cometh from imbalance". Every once in a while, it pays to go with truth. :)

I've been sinning slightly less this year, mainly due to lack of opportunity. I think that's why I won a race.

And later, you play Miserlou really loud and do that funny dance with Uma making the peace sign over your eyes sideways.

Or maybe that comes earlier.

1 Corinthians 9:24 Do you not know that those who bike in a race all pedal, but only one receives the prize? Pedal in such a way that you may win.

That's a Tarintino(sp?) verse not a bible verse, he just made it up for the movie.

I just tell myself I'm celebrating the gifts God gave me by using them to ride... poorly.
