Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Who's at Ripon tomorrow? The hill is going to suck. I'm in for the 4/5's.

Regrettably, I'm going to miss Ripon. If I go, I'd be looking at a 36 hour long day on Fri/Sat due to work.

That ain't gonna happen .... I've been up 24 today already!
Brief report shortly while I unload the camera ....

The morning session at Humboldt park was HOT.
But these BF racers showed up regardless and gave it their all:

Those boys were flying tonight! Sorry I missed ya. Maybe we'll see ya Saturday.
Hip where were you? I didn't get there until about 7 and you were already gone!?!?!? Oh well . . . next time.
Great time. Couple of the Rock Racing guys were watching the podium next to me afterwards -- great guys!

Nice hanging with you for a while -- we'll have to hook up on Saturday (assuming no rain -- I'm a fair weather spectator :o ) I'm uploading the pics right now . . . had about 80 of them but with my little point and shoot its tough. The quality just isn't there. :( I'll post them in a bit.
Ok, here's the pics.
EDIT: Opps, I forgot to change the upload size . . . if anyone wants a full-size version of any of them, let me know.

Well, on the bright side, today was the closest I've ever come to throwing up on a bike. (riding, not aimed at a bike)
Big news from the pro race: the yellow jersey wearing rock rider was down and in the hospital for a cat scan for head injury. I heard he blew up a tire. On the climb. Pros are crazy.

 Damn, that's two days in a row that he went down. He got mixed up in a crash in the first corner in Shorewood too -- nice bloody knees from that one.
Hope he's alright.
Just watched the forecast for tomorrow. Usually I go out in the morning for a race or two and then go back for the Pro 1/2/3 but looks like if I make it that it will be in the afternoon and for the Pro race . . . that's you Recursive! We'll see.

FWIW: I've been scanning the area blogs (here at work) and one from Team Pegasus claims they ran across Greg Lemond at a house party in Shorewood. There was one guy there that at first I swore was Dan Jansen (Speed skater), but I don't think it actually was (too skinny). Keep your eyes peeled for other celebs, you never know who might be around! http://emoticons4u.com/country/Italy.gif

^^^^what he said dave! Sweet.
BF is certainly well-represented in these races.
It must be nice to be in a race and actually be racing....wouldn't know that feeling myself....CyLowe knows what I'm talkin' about....but at least we're 'racers' now....we try.
I need to know who here is racing on Wed. on my home course of Whitnall Park...and what is your start time then? I'm trying to put together my riding/watching schedule on my day off work that day.

07-19-08, 08:45 PM
Mr. Wiswell and I went to Waukesha. We saw Recursive for a few laps - first and second lap (or so), in the pack, third lap, back of pack, fourth lap gapped OTB, and then...no more? What happened?
Also saw a few laps of the pros and all of the 1/2/3 women. What happened to the female rider that went down?
Good races. A bit ridiculous however when in the kiddie race the 9 year old in full riding kit (including clipless pedals and shoes) and road bike competes (he won, of course). A bit audacious! The 3 and 4 year old races were really fun!
I think I saw John Wilke - big guy, red backpack with tripod sticking out?

L O N G day.
Lemme get some grub then will do a quick write up.
Well, I didn't make it out until about 6:30 so I joined the Pro 1/2/3 race already in progress. Group of about 13 was already off the front and they would go on to pull to about 30 seconds from lapping the remaining part of the field. The field was down in size from Thursday's Shorewood race. The Columbian team was gone, Bahati was sitting this one out, just not as many riders . . . crowd seemed kinda small this year too.
Saw JDub again and chatted briefly with him, but didn't see anyone else. Now, on with the pics (yeah, I know I said I wasn't going to take any John, but I couldn't help myself):
First, it was good to see Sterling Magnell out racing today after his big crash yesterday as discussed above (http://www.bikeforums.net/showpost.php?p=7090131&postcount=127):
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa167/cyclesage/Superweek%202008/Waukesha/IMG_0803.jpg Speaking of Rock Racing, I was hearing some buzz that they rolled their trailer -- anyone hear anything about that?

So today started in a rush to get dressed and to registration, because I got to the race 1/2 an hour late. I got registered and I started warming up by riding the course. Somewhere during this time it started raining, and the set-up crew lost the keys to their moving truck that was conveniently parked right on the start/finish line.
So I'm rolling around the course, and my wheels slide out. Crap. I'm on the ground already and the racing hasn't even started. So now I'm nervous, bleeding, freezing, and soaking wet. The organizers tell us our race is now starting at 11:30, two hours after the scheduled start. That was a blessing.
It stops raining and even starts to dry out a little bit when we start the race. I got stuck kind of near the back, so I was at a serious disadvantage from the start. People were opening huge gaps and sliding out on turns in the first lap already. On lap 3 or 4 I finally made it up to the lead group. I have heard at least 3 crashes behind me, and seen way too many people sliding on the paint.
We roll around as a group of 9 or so for a lap or two and then Mark Horstmeyer decides that he wants to break away. Nobody could bring him back, or nobody tried. I tried, but I couldn't do it all. Mark stays away for 1st. Another guy from flatlandia breaks away too, and I'm at the back of our pack when that happens, and I can't do much. He gets 2nd. On the last lap the sprint starts early. I'm in 3rd wheel. One guy passes me, and I pass one guy for 5th. It was a good sprint for me, and I just barely got the guy on the line. I even did a 1/2 bike throw thing. $45 back into the race fund brings me to about even after 2 races.
^^^ Outstanding effort for what sounds like a crazy day!

My second mid-pack (with bike throw) finish. Had I not thrown the bike, I'd have finished 37 of 75. Instead, I took 36.
I rock.
All kidding aside, the bike racing is too much fun... even when you suck.

Evanston 3s:
Some racing happened.
Then at the final turn, I was maybe 20th, I don't know. The rest of the runup is completely flat straight and the same width with good pavement. Despite this, somehow a whole bunch of guys got tangled up. I saw a perfect line through. Right past the first guy, left past the second, and right past the third. Eat my dust suckers. Before I got to him, the second guy got up and started walking without looking at anything. I took him down. Hard. My helmets toast. Jersey's ripped. Road rash, very sore back, etc. I bounced to within 20 feet of the finish line, but couldn't get up to make it the rest of the way. I didn't care.
