Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Do we have a video guy at the finish? After all, it does say that all good things are three :D
But seriously dude, good luck and keep the rubber side down!
This just in from Downer ave:
I still suck.
Despite a nasty wreck, and a car on the road (coming right at us), still had a great time. Great course. It's a shame more Chicago area riders didn't make it up... Tons of spectators for even the 4/5's!

Sweet baby j I thought that first crash would have dislocated a shoulder and the second would have put a bump in the noggin. Cajones senor! :thumb:

Just rolled in.
Great job by all BFers.
No one crashed to my knowledge and I got an awesome picture of Rock Racing winning the $7,000 prime.
Yes, SEVEN THOUSAND DOLLARS.
More later ....
Didn't make it tonight -- family commitments. Any of the Chicago Crit pros make it up?

No. Nobody extra made it, but Sterling Magnell (Rock Racing) WON the darn thing and retook the lead (and Yellow Jersey) by four points ! Rahsaan Bahati did not race, but the Colombians and all the rest from the series were there.
I would expect Rock Racing and Jittery Joe's to be in full battle tomorrow.

Yeah, sounds like they have been a bit heated (http://www.cyclingnews.com/news.php?id=news/2008/jul08/jul27news) the last day or two.

The lead is three points and it was the largest single lap prime in US cycling history. :roflmao2:

Downer 3s:
STUPID PEOPLE!! STOP CRASHING!! I avoided the crashes, but others were not so lucky. I don't know what the problem is but there two crashes on straight non-narrowing sections. These are parts where there is really no excuse for crashing. All you have to do is ride in a straight line.
So, I stayed in the back. I was feeling nervous about contesting positions, and in superweek, if you don't defend yourself, you're at the back. After the first crash, the race was neutralized and restarted. It took like 20 minutes for some reason. After the second crash, I took a free lap because I got caught behind it even though I didn't go down.
With about 6 to go, I felt like I was having trouble breathing like my ribs were tight or something. It kind of felt like my injury from Sunday. I just packed it in, not being enthusiastic about my chances if I continued.
Because I was using my backup (training) bike, I had a powertap. First race of the season with a computer, but I didn't look at it at all. I missed a few laps of recording. I've captured a few choice bits of information that really captured the character of my race.
I'm opting not to race tomorrow. I hurt everywhere.
I'm in awe of the pros who race every day. And stay fast. And are fast in the first place.

Sterling is in the lead, honest.
Superweek is intense, no doubt about it. There was a cat 4/5 (prob. 5) in Kenosha that pulled out right by me ... he was visibly trembling. It's tough out there! :)
Pix shortly.

Man, you are so correct about the crashing...i bailed after the first restart.. i rolled around at the back of the pack for a lap and decided i didn't want to play with those yokels. like we were talking about in staging, i don't who is experienced and who's the fresh cat 4 upgrade who is a squirrel with no sense of self preservation. there was no reason for that first crash, dudes riding with their heads down??? running into guys in front of them?? i was grateful for many years of racing mt. bikes, that i was able to thread my way through 15 guys crashing all around me.
good thing you made it thru.

Got there too late to see you guys....pros just started. (I planned to be there earlier, but if you have a wife you may understand about running late for things you go to as a couple)...Great crowd...great vibe...super racing...FAST.
I was watching a dude on a pretty unique color scheme bike...a gold abd black Orbea that stood out to me.

Read Sterling's Journal for today: http://www.sterlingmagnell.com/journal.shtml
If the WINNER is saying things like: "These two weeks have been so hard ... ", it's tough for everybody.
I'm just taking pictures, 8 to 12 hours for the past 9 days, but my feet hurt so bad last night I could barely walk around the house. I kept asking myself at the beginning, driving back and forth through Chicago: this is crazy, why am I doing this?, but this is our Tour de France. There is no other series like this. I may never see the Tour, but I've experienced Superweek!
O-n-e ... m-o-r-e ... d-a-y. :D

Sterling is in the lead, honest.
Last night after the race they showed Sterling in second and the website showed him in second so someone should tell them if they are wrong. Last night we were standing where the super prime was after the race all of the sudden a Rock Racing rider rode up and slowly got off his bike and sat down in the street. Then he was laying there in the street. After further review it was Sterling. He got up a little later and rode back to the finish line.

Recursive ... I'm thinking your frame should be cast iron and maybe you can put a bunch of that foam pipe insulation stuff around the members. That should be good for you.

I see they have results up already. How'd it go tonight? Did Bahati not race again?

He dropped out with a few laps to go. A 7 man break ate up all the sprint points so he didn't have a chance to get the red jersey back and he just pulled the plug.

OMG I'M FAT! Thanks, I'm going on a diet now.
I don't know who I collided with. If you're out there reading this:
I really do not know if I could have avoided collision entirely, but I apologize for not slowing down to the extent that I could. But I am glad to see that you appear not to have serious injury from the video. I learned a valuable lesson.
Don't apologize. It's his fault he went down, after running into the guy on his left (squeezed him into the boards). Actually, I'll thank you for tackling him after he took me out with his bike.

Having watched that video about 10009334 times now, I just realized something: Watch the riders in back bunny hopping the downed bike. I know it's hard to take your eyes off the "main action", but there's some really good riding going on back there to keep things from getting worse.

I downloaded it using keepvid.com in high quality. I literally watched it frame by frame. Multiple times. Did you see the spare wheel wandering out of view?
And James: Glad to be of service.

Humboldt Park - Cat. 4/5
Looking through the pix, an Endeavor rider (not Trevor, I should know who it is, but can't think right now) solo's to the win, pumps hand in air - but later a Wheaton rider wins the pack sprint and pumps his arms. Also the order of riders crossing the line doesn't match the official results ... were there lapped riders in that sprint? Worse yet, the Endeavor rider is on the top step of the podium, but not listed in the results !
I'm confused - oh well, after all ... it's only cat. 4/5. :p
