Foo - Careless driver ran me off rode while cycling!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Yep...just outside of town on a ride before work. A large silver truck (might have been an F-350) cut the corner tight and forced me off the rode into the dirt. I went down in a heap at about 10-12 mph. The driver never stopped and I didn't get up in time to get a good look at the vehicle or catch the plate.:notamused: The truck didn't hit me, but cut the turn so tight that I had no room left on the road and had to ride off to avoid being hit.:notamused:
No serious injuries, but I lost a little bit of skin/road burn on my right elbow area, and across the top of my right knee and lower quad. Also contusion on right inner knee and a couple of handlebar marks above my knee. My right wrist is slightly sprained too. I landed on my right back and I have some tightness around the back of my right ribcage, but otherwise I'm OK. I had to ride about 2 miles back to town/home. My back was just feeling good again over the past week or so, now I'm afraid that I may lose more time off the bike. At least I'm basically OK and it wasn't more serious.
The bike....is OK except for a couple scratches on the right shift lever and a scuff/scratch on the rear deraillier.

haha...Thanks Pcad...yea the road rash is not bad at all... the sprained right wrist and my back/rr ribcage is very sore, which is bothering me the most right now. I'm very lucky.

Thanks lodi! The elbow/raod rash burns, but other than the back...I feel OK so far. I'm drinking some wine and relaxing. Otherwise I might be really pissed off!:p Thanks for the support.:thumb:
Hey, you and your bike gained a bit of character. Sure beats what could have happened in that situation.
Glad you avoided the right hook and made it out in one piece.
(And what the hell is that thing in your avatar?)

I'm sorry to hear that you went down. I had an episode with a careless (sleeping?) driver as well.
He got yelled at. Twice.

That's Wall-E in my avatar. The most heartwarming movie I've seen in a while.

Gotta love a good Zin. Glad you're OK, cycle!
Glad you're ok. I hate *hitty careless drivers too. I haven't had any close calls yet (knock on wood), Jack Daniels eases my aches just fine.

Wow, I'm really out of the loop. Didn't even know there was a new Pixar movie out. Sheesh.

Yep. Wall-E was a very funny film. Sharing it with Diana... made it priceless.:thumb::love:
Feelin' no pain right about now.:thumb:
Hey, I got to meet Diana yesterday. Next time you're out this way, you should both see if you can't pick up a Northern California Bikeforums ride. :)

Perhaps a special lady *ahem* overthere somewhere might be able to kiss your boo boos. *wink wink* :D
Glad to see nothing more serious happened, as we all know it could of ended up much much worse. If anything this is just another subtle reminder for us all to keep our heads up, and stay alert.
Hope your back and wrist recovery comes about soon, but in the meantime hit up Versus and catch some of the TDF :)

Sadly...I'm alone with a bottle of California Zinfandel, nursing my wounds. But thinking of that someone special.
Advantage: You can drink it straight out of the bottle! :P

The bike is actually fine. An slight scratch on the R fornt shifter lever and a scuff/scratch on the rear deraillier is all. My elbow was really burning, but the wine has kicked in and I think I'm ready for bed. Hopefully I won't ache all over when I wake up tomorrow.
Thanks for all the kind words Foosters.

When I was there I almost got hit by numerous cars while I was jogging. It's about the only thing I don't like about that area. Drivers there are actually less courteous than Detroit drivers.
