Anyone have any sources for something of this nature? I've heard it referred to as a full stand... or full kick stand...

So when the stand is up, it's like a bumper for the back of your bike? Hehe

I have a couple I picked up in Japan. Max 26" wheel base. I love them. They are especially good for commuters bikes and bikes that you use to haul a lot of stuff. You can pile your bike high with goods as you strap them to your rear rack or panniers and the bike will NOT fall down.

Contact me if you want to buy one. I think I have one or two left.

They aren't quite the same, but there is one made by a company named Plescher (I think). It is more like two regular kickstands, one on each side. As long as your on firm ground it should work as well. I believe Harris Cyclery sells them, or your LBS can order one from QBP. Cost about $35 but high quality.

That's not a bad price. The stands I got from Japan are pretty heavy duty. You could have two kids wrestling on the bike and the bike wouldn't fall over with the Japanese stand. However, it probably weighs a pound and a half. The Japanese stands cost about $25.00, so it is about the same as the one Rainman talks about.

Hey, Rainman, can you post a pic?

Mike,

On a motorcycle that would be called a centerstand.
Back in the 40s and 50s they were common as mom had one on her bike, or so she said.

The poseurs would make fun of me for having a kickstand but, so what? I want one anyway. And besides, when did I ever care what posers think anyway :-)

Actually, I am not sure who makes the stand. I bought a couple of them in Okachimachi, Tokyo. The stand is well made and is very sturdy. It has a lock feature on it that keeps the stand engaged so the bike doesn't move.

Here is a pic:

i picked one up in britten last year while there, and mine attaches to the frame where a regular kick would be installed (bottom bracket?) have no idea on the brand name though. when i have my bike fully loaded: 8 loads of launrdy, 3-4 weeks worth. heavy enough that i have problems keeping the bike up myself. it'll hold the whole thing up w/o falling over. thing weighs a ton but seeing as i'm obveously not afraid of carrying a little extra weight it doesn't bother me one iota. (although i probably shouldn't load my bike so heavy, but francis doesn't seem to mind as long as i keep her tyres inflated properly. and yes i name my bikes.)

have not seen any of these types in the US. if i run across any i'll post it.

cheers

Try to post the question in the Touring section, people who need to stand a fully loaded tourer need the balanced stand, or the bike tips.
