Another "more bike commuters out and about" thread.
This article brightened my morning:

The article in a nutshell: Bike commuting is way up in Minneapolis. Bike shops are selling more bikes, mainly commuter-style rigs, and people are dusting off their older bikes.
The "Greenway" they refer to is a sort of bike-only highway through town, completely segregated from auto traffic. It goes under city streets, with little onramps and offramps that take you back up to street level. Here's a good picture. (http://www.uscoles.com/bikepix/bpmidtowngreenwayl.jpg). It is perhaps the most amazing piece of bike infrastructure I've seen in a major metro area in the US.
Even in the suburban wasteland I live in just outside of the Twin Cities, I see about a dozen other bike commuters on my way to work. My employer just tripled the number of bike racks, and is starting to expand the shower facilities.
Hopefully this trend will continue into the colder and darker months.
