Utility Cycling - What works better, Long John, or 8 Freight?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I've been on and off thinking about a cargo bike for some time, and I'm thinking again. I know all about the Big Dummy style bikes, but less about other designs. Something about a Bakfiets doesn't appeal, but both the Long John and the 8 Freight look good. Can anyone compare and contrast, and does anyone know how to source a Long John in the UK?

There's also a Bilenky Cargo, if you've looked at those... http://www.bilenky.com/prod42.html
A quick look through indicates that the Long John is no longer being built. I wouldn't know, I use an Xtracycle myself, though i'll have to admit that if I had to chose again, adding anything to the rear is not my favorite way to go. Something always seems to go awry with anything behind my back.

IŽd also check out fietsfabriek.nl and kemper-velo.de models. Classic Long Johns are being manufactured by Velorbis ( www.velorbis.com ) - Pedalpower.de has a modern quite nice german version.
