Let's see... how did I get here? Well, kinda circuitous actually... I'd checked out this forum before by accident through a link from another site a few years ago. I was in awe at some of the bikes, but I really didn't stick around.

Fast forward to last November when I was looking through expeditionportal.com [mods: not trying to pimp the site] and fawning over some of the bikes there. That led me to vwvagabonds, and as I started to pour over their stories of traveling through Asia on a bike, I was surprised to find that they were riding old, thrift store bikes. Not brand spanking new LBS thousand dollar machines, just a carefully maintained $30 bike.

Two days later and a quick look through CL, I bought mine. Thirty minutes after that I was searching for any and all information I could find about Peugeot bicycles, and I ended up back here.

Now I have that Peugeot, and a Specialized (also "old", and this one from a thrift store) that I've been riding every chance I get. Not really for fitness, or training, or anything like that. Rather, it's been more for exploring the neighborhood, two or three hours at a time. Running errands and commuting a bit has been an accidental, but welcomed side effect. I think I'm going to use the rest of the summer to get used to riding more and more often, and come fall I might end up commuting to school as well.

I am now buying bike specific tools every chance that I get, and I think the next step will be to buy a couple of cheapo $10 bikes to take apart and learn from. At least if I mess something up, I'll still have a good bike to ride on.

Anyway, that's my story and I'm sticking to it!
